Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
Get ready to hear from us! Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on our ENROLL NOW registration campaign. It is very important for our planning and budgeting that we know how many students will be enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, as we build classes and staff assignments based on the number of students registered. Registration has been open for two weeks and as of today we have 484 students in the entire district for next year (less than 20%). Our goal is to have 80% participation by May 10th. Click here to get started now!
As a further incentive to register (or let us know that your child will not be returning), on May 6th we will place a Force Registration on ParentVUE accounts. The program will allow ParentVUE users to log into their account 2 times with a message to register. On the third visit users will be unable to proceed into ParentVUE without registering their child(ren).
If you are the parent of one of our 484 registered students, Thank You! If school registration is on your To-Do list, please make some time this weekend to cross it off!
In other news,
This week our World Languages department received two recognitions at the SDCOE Leadership In Biliteracy Symposium. We were honored for our biliteracy pathways and the State Seal of Biliteracy program, and our world language curriculum specialist Maylen Sullivan was honored for her leadership in the field. Congrats!
Tonight is opening night for the CoSA production of PIPPIN. Information is on the flyer below or click here for tickets.
Congratulations to Matt Heinecke and the CHS Band on their stellar performance at the CMEA Band and Orchestra Festival. Read all about it in our NEWSROOM.
We are expanding our TK program to full day! Read more about Full Day TK, and check out the flyer below for information about the May 2nd Open House at Village and Silver Strand.
Our partners at CSF and the Chamber of Commerce are busy planning for the Art & Wine Festival on May 11th. This amazing event not only benefits our schools and showcases artwork from our creative students, it also attracts thousands of people and requires hundreds of volunteers. Please help by taking a volunteer shift before, during, or after you enjoy the festivities!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Kat Savant and Annie Gardner are our Anchored4Life Parent Advisors and are amazing leaders and supporters of our A4L Team Leaders and our entire school. Our A4L Team Leaders guide monthly assemblies, conduct tours, provide kits and supports for students, and are planning a community project in support of unhoused individuals. Kat and Annie are organized, caring, committed, and inspiring supporters of our students, impacting ALL Voyagers. We are incredibly grateful to them for dedicating so much time to our school in this capacity!
- Grace Medrano is our new MFLC this year and has had a tremendous impact on our students and families already. She is forging meaningful connections and is visible and available for support every day. She collaborated with our staff and families to create displays of student work for both Veterans Day and Month of the Military Child. She is kind, creative, hardworking, and collaborative, and we appreciate her being part of our Voyager School Community!
- Mindy Hayes is our School Liaison Officer for our district and others, but it feels like she is always available for Silver Strand and its families. She is an anchor at the Youth Center in Liberty Housing and therefore hands-on connected to children, families, and staff supporting our military personnel. She tirelessly harnesses command resources to mentor our students at all sites. She seeks out resources so that our military children and ALL students feel seen, heard, and valued. She is a master communicator, and her newsletter is a compendium of useful info and resources. Finally, she helps our schools and families work together in transitions, enrollment, and navigating our city and state policies. She is exceptionally suited to her role with her calm, supportive, and positive demeanor. We appreciate Mindy!
- Everyday Mrs. Samantha Tummons goes above and beyond to make learning fun for her 1st graders! She sparks interest and joy in lessons and has especially fostered excitement for reading through monthly books with a personal note for each student. Simply amazing teacher!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2023-2024 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $20 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
