From Your Principal
Howbert PTO
Do you know how important the PTO is to the staff, students, and families at Howbert?
- The PTO raises needed money for the school. The PTO leverages their organizational power to coordinate volunteers and plan and execute fundraising efforts. These fundraisers pay for everything from field trips, outdoor learning spaces like our amphitheatre, and other instructional items teachers request through the PTO grant program.
- Parent involvement benefits students. The PTO brings parents into schools, allowing for “face time” with other parents, teachers, administrative staff, and sometimes students other than their kids. These interactions allow parents to provide better support for their kids in the place where they spend the most time.
- PTOs strengthen school-community relationships. PTOs often form the link between a school and the community at large. By opening the lines of communication between school staff and families or caregivers, these groups create a space for schools and communities to work together to achieve common goals.
I encourage you all to get involved with the Howbert PTO. A good way to start is to attend just one of the PTO meetings. They are held monthly and the next meeting is Thursday, Sept. 12th, 3:30-4:30 at Howbert Elementary.

Howbert Guiding Coalition (SAC)
The Howbert Guiding Coalition (SAC) is a team of staff and parents/guardians that meet bi-monthly to learn about what is happening at Howbert Elementary, ask questions, and provide input.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 25th from 4:00-5:00 in-person at Howbert or online via Webex (click here to join meeting).
We encourage and welcome your partnership in the Guiding Coalition.

Volunteering at Howbert!
The staff and students at Howbert love to have volunteers at the school supporting learning. If you would like to volunteer, please speak with the classroom teacher or contact the front office to share with us how you would like to help.
One of the first steps all volunteers must take, is to complete the Colorado Springs School District 11 Volunteer Application.
It is best to complete the application prior to visiting the school to volunteer.
Below is the link that will take you directly to the online volunteer application.
If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Jo in the front office (719-328-4211).
