Supporting Our Children in Their Hardest Moments with Dr. Doug Bolton
Our children are facing emotional struggles like never before, and as parents/guardians, we often don’t know how to respond effectively. Recent brain science offers new insights into emotional regulation and provides tools to support our children in their toughest times. This workshop will equip parents with strategies to better understand and help their children during challenging moments.
The Debra Gelfand Children’s Foundation has invited Psychologist Doug Bolton to speak to all D34 families and the Glenview community on Wednesday, October 23, at 7pm at Attea Middle School (2500 Chestnut Ave). Interpretation and childcare services are available to in-person attendees.
Doug Bolton is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Director of School Consultation for Formative Psychological Services. He spent over 20 years as a psychologist and principal at North Shore Academy, a K-12 therapeutic school in Highland Park. Dr. Bolton provides consultation, supervision and professional development to caregivers, educators, and clinicians throughout northern Illinois to create communities that help foster child and adult resilience.
Community Resource
Care Solace for North Cook ISC students, staff, and their families is a free, confidential 24/7/365 Mental Health Care Coordination Service. Call 888-515-0595 or go to caresolace.com/site/northcook to complete a brief screening to be matched with a provider. Note that this is available to staff and their families as well as students.
The Glenview Community Winter Wear Drive ends on October 24 and aims to ensure that local families in need stay warm and comfortable during the cold winter months. We are collecting new and like-new clean winter coats, hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves to provide warmth and comfort to those who need it most.
From October 10-24, drop off donations of new and like-new clean winter wear at the following locations:
- Roosevelt Pool Club House (2239 Fir St) temporary Youth Services location
- Attea School (2500 Chestnut Ave)
- Springman School (2701 Central Rd) main entrance on Washington St)
- Glenview Public Library (1930 Glenview Rd)
You also can make a monetary donation online at tinyurl.com/GVWinterWear. Every contribution, coat or cash, big or small, helps us make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. A shopping event for those in need will take place later this fall.
This initiative is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Youth Services, the Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation, Glenview District 34, and the District 34 PTAs.
Donation bins are located in the SP main office!
Leaving Early?
No worries! We just ask that you call ahead to the attendance line (847-998-5020 ---> press 1) with date/time of needed dismissal. Students are required to stop by the main office to pick up their early dismissal pass/ensure the digital pass has been assigned and also to sign out at the time requested. No need to come into the building as our front office staff will monitor and dismiss students directly to parent/guardian.
