Principal's Report
The Resilience Project
The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity.
We will be implementing their evidence-based Teaching and Learning Program throughout our classrooms, staffroom and school community.
Teachers and students will engage in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy to build resilience.
See the attached sheet for more information. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Many thanks to Mission Australia and Dr Gaye Sheather for providing this wonderful program to our school.
What is the AEDC?
The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is a nationwide data collection of early childhood development at the time children commence their first year of full-time school. The AEDC highlights what is working well and what needs to be improved or developed to support children and their families by providing evidence to support health, education and community policy and planning.
The AEDC is held every three years. The 2024 AEDC data collection will be the sixth collection.
The census involves teachers of children in their first year of full-time school completing a research tool, the Australian version of the Early Development Instrument. The Instrument consist of about 100 questions and collects data relating to five key areas of early childhood development referred to as ‘domains’, these include:
- Physical health and well being
- Social competence
- Emotional maturity
- Language and cognitive skills (school-based)
- Communication skills and general knowledge
Data is collected for individual children and reported for groups of children at a community, state/territory and national level.

Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics Carnival will be held this Thursday 23 May at Fearnley Dawes Athletic Track in Newcastle. Students will travel by bus to and from the event. Please ensure students wear full school uniform including a hat. Students will require fruit break, lunch, recess and a water bottle.
Please return permission notes along with the correct money to their class teacher. Payments can also be made online through School Bytes or by EFTPOS at the Office.
Parents are welcome to come along and support the students on the day.
Collaborative, Respectful Communication
At our school, we are committed to creating a positive and inclusive environment for all students. Our focus is on fostering a collaborative partnership with you to support and enhance student learning. I would like to highlight some key expectations outlined in our School Community Charter that ensure a supportive and respectful community for everyone involved.
As part of our school community, parents and carers can expect:
- A Warm Welcome: We welcome you into our school to work alongside us in promoting student learning. Your involvement is vital to our students' success.
- Effective Communication: Our school staff will communicate with you in a timely, polite, and informative manner. Keeping you updated on your child's progress and school announcements is a priority.
- Professional Relationships: We believe in building professional relationships based on transparency, honesty, and mutual respect. Your trust and cooperation are essential to our shared goals.
- Fair Treatment: Every member of our community deserves to be treated fairly. We promote tolerance, understanding, and respect for diversity, ensuring that our school is a place where everyone feels valued and included.
We are dedicated to maintaining a positive school environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

School Zone Parking
The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools. You can help keep children safe by remembering the following:
- drop off and pick up children on the school side of the road
- never call out to children from across the road – it is very dangerous
- always take extra care when driving in 40km school zones
- follow all parking signs – these help keep children as safe as possible
- park responsibly even if this means you have to walk further to the school gate
- never double park – it is illegal and puts children at risk
- never do a U-turn or three-point turn outside the school as it puts children at risk of harm
- model safe and considerate pedestrian and driver behaviours to your children.
Uniform Shop
Due to our Uniform Shop volunteer being unavailable, uniforms are currently being sold at the school office. We can only accept payment via CASH ONLY.
School Security
There have been several breaks ins at the school since returning this year. If you notice anything suspicious in and around our school, please contact School Security on 1300 88 00 21 or the Newcastle Police 4929 0999.
Just a reminder to keep reading and recording your books for the Premier's Reading Challenge.
PRC closes Friday 23 August 2024.
Good luck and enjoy reading!
