Murphy Middle School eNews
Week of August 26th
Hello, Murphy Families!
This marks the last week in August, and the summer heat is not subsiding! Please make sure to write your students' names on each of their belongings (water bottles, lunch bags, backpacks, clothing) so that we can return these items to them. Our Lost and Found locations are already beginning to pile up, and there are no names for us to identify the item's owner.
Students received the Picture IDs last Friday during 8th period. If they were not in class during 8th period, then we will deliver their IDs on Monday during 1st period. Should these picture IDs become lost, the cost is $5 to replace.
Speaking of IDs, we cannot impress the importance for students to wear their IDs daily to school. Last Thursday's Secure Event (an emergency that Murphy PD alerted us requiring our campus to bring students inside quickly and to secure exterior doors) occurred before the first bell at 8:25 a.m. to start the instructional day. Students were still arriving and walking to the front doors. Should something similar happen in the future, we will post a sign in the driveway alerting parents of the security event so that the your student may remain inside your car. Should they exit your car, it is imperative that they have their picture ID on the lanyard around their neck in order to be let into the building. We are thankful for the expedience and care of Murphy PD that allowed us keep our students and faculty safe inside the building.
Please be on the lookout this week for Fall Picture Proofs from Lifetouch that your student will take home. These proofs do NOT need to be returned, but it does indicate a unique ID for you to order pictures and products. The campus earns a percentage of picture sales, so please do consider buying a package to commemorate the start of your student's 24-25 school year! Scroll down for ordering info!
We start Fall MAP testing this week. Parents may still drop off lunches for their student. Please remember that no third party food delivery should be made to students during the school day, and parents should only drop off food for their own children.
Don't forget to access MMS PTA Newsletter to learn about how to register for the upcoming Fun Run, support the Alternative Fundraiser by writing a check so the grade level that has the most donations will have a Chips Party & Free Chromebook time, volunteer for Volleyball Home Game Concessions, and more! There is a Spirit Night this Thursday, 3-9 p.m. , at Tropical Smoothie Cafe! Come for a treat before or after the 7th/8th Grade Back to School Parent Info Night that starts at 5 p.m. in the Big Gym! MMS PTA is also seeking support for our Sister Campus, Armstrong MS, for donations to help provide a t-shirt for each student to commemorate the last year this campus will be in session.

MMS Staff Superstar Award
Our first recipient of the **MMS Superstar Award** this year is Christi Van Laere, our Office Manager.
She has worked tirelessly to declutter our campus, spruce up the front office’s “curb appeal,” and personally mended our hanging wall files for emergency info. She even decorated our DLR for the welcome back staff gathering and moved broken furniture to be picked up by the district! Thank you, Christi, for going above and beyond!

Plano ISD Board of Trustees Approves 2025-26 Calendar
The 2025-26 Plano ISD Academic Calendar was approved by the Board of Trustees during their meeting on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
The district proposed an academic calendar based on work from the 2024-25 calendar that was approved on November 28, 2023. Both calendars, nearly identical in design, were planned with the best interest of students in mind, taking into consideration valuable input from parents, students, educators and administrators. The first day of school for the 2025-26 school year will be August 12, 2025, and the last day of school is May 22, 2026.
This early calendar approval provides the district more time to secure graduation dates and allows more advanced planning for families and staff. It also gives the district time to adjust the calendar if needed.
Calendar features include:
- Student fall break from October 13-17, 2025
- Staff fall break from October 13-15, 2025
- Thanksgiving break from November 24-28, 2025
- Winter break from December 22, 2025–January 2, 2026
- Student holiday/staff work day January 5, 2026
- Spring break from March 16-20, 2026
- Student holiday/staff work day March 23, 2026
