An Update from Hough Elementary

March 4, 2025 Newsletter
Principal Update
Dear Hough Community,
Our Hawks have been growing, learning, and collaborating this past month at Hough! As we welcome the changing seasons and the end of trimester two, we also celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and families. Students have been working through weekly reading and math assessments, challenging themselves to carefully write organized and engaging paragraphs, and learning more about science and SSGS as they advance through their grade level units of study.
This month, we will be focusing on Cooperation as part of our Character Strong curriculum. Students will be participating in activities that emphasize teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. From classroom discussions to authentic learning experiences, they are learning how to work together to achieve shared goals. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by finding ways to practice cooperation in daily family routines.
I know this will be an exciting month to watch and highlight all of the examples of cooperation from our Hawks, both inside and outside of the classroom. I want to send a shout out to Hough’s 3rd and 4th grade Girl Scout Troops for demonstrating cooperation as each troop built elaborate castles out of their cookie cases. Their creative cooperative efforts have been entered in a local contest. The troops invite you to check out what they were able to build when working together and vote for each of their creations: 3rd Grade Troop and 4th Grade Troop.
Outside of the classroom, we’ve had some exciting school-wide PTO events and activities, including the Valentine's Day parties, Family Night at Culver's, Read Across Barrington, and the 5th grade basketball season. Each event has been an exciting success, bringing students and families together for a fun and meaningful experience. Looking ahead, we have many more activities on the calendar for spring and we can’t wait to see our community come together for these special spring events.
As always, we appreciate your support in making Hough a place where students feel valued, inspired, and excited to learn. Thank you for your partnership in fostering a positive school community.
Wishing you a wonderful March!
Warmly,
Heather Schumacher
