There are three main areas of focus for this workshop:
- General Admissions requirements and what to know - (GMU representative will present)
- How to kickstart your essay (English department teacher will present)
- Common App and Schoolinks. (Platforms used to send applications and materials)
This event is a great way to quickly understand the work in front of you to apply to colleges and how to accomplish it.
1- Letters of recommendations: It is time to start asking your teachers for letters of recommendations (2 teachers max). They will have a lot of letters to write in the Fall, the earlier notification you gave them, the better it is.
2- IMPORTANT! Common App: Be ready for fall! Start by completing your Common Application. Do not submit it! Simply get the tedious information out of the way. Letters of recommendations, and transcripts will be dealt later in a different platform. More to come!
3- Research, research, and research. Find the colleges you want to apply to. Watch this video to help you understand how many colleges you should apply to. The answer is not 20+! Check out the guidance provided by our University of South Carolina admission rep here. The idea for this video sprang from the recent Spring College Panel held at Independence HS where all the admission reps in attendance agreed with what USC rep stated.
4- Visit universities and read through the RRHS website and learn about the process.
5- Assess your skills and career interest on exploring completing the SchooLinks assessments.
