Teacher Spotlight
BHS Math Teacher J. R. Voyles was selected by Perdenales Electric Cooperative for their Teacher Spotlight. PEC received over 300 nominations and selected 6 educators to receive this recognition. Mr. Voyles was given his award during school on Friday which included a gift basket, a certificate, and a yard sign. Congratulations Mr. Voyles!
Below are some comments made by those who nominated him.
- “Mr. Voyles single-handedly changed my son’s perception of himself and of men. He encouraged my son every day. He was always willing to meet my son before or after school to offer him additional help. He became someone my son truly looked up to. It was more than just educating him, it was taking an interest in him. It was encouraging him and always being willing to help him..”
- “The world we live in today needs a lot more teachers like Mr. Voyles in high schools everywhere. I will be forever grateful for Mr. Voyles crossing paths with my son.”
- “My son recently told me that he doesn’t need the statistics class that Mr. Voyles is teaching next year but he’d rather just take the course than have an off period.”
- “Mr. Voyles is very deserving of this award. I’m sure he could make a lot more money in a different field but I am so thankful he wakes up every day and chooses to be a teacher. He needs to know how much of an impact he’s made.”
- “Mr. Voyles is just an incredible teacher and human being!”
Senior Picnic
The BHS Senior Class had a cookout/picnic for the Final Friday of school. A few class members started cooking brisket at 9:30 PM Thursday and spent the overnight hours on campus monitoring things for lunch Friday. The class enjoyed some together time at lunch listening to music and playing various games. They loaded up on buses and went to the park to take a class photo. Thank you to Ms. Gaskamp, Ms. Craft, Zoe Zbytovsky, and Cassandra Hartman for helping take photos and arrange everyone.
Summer School
BHS will host summer school for students who did not pass one or more of their STAAR EOC tests, students who had excessive absences during the school year and need to make up time to regain credits, or students who need additional help in Math, Science, ELA, or Social Studies.
Summer school will begin Monday, June 3. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday. School will be from 8:30 - 11:30 AM. Summer school will end on June 13.
State EOC testing will take place the following week (June 17-21).
BHS is expecting to receive 2024 Spring STAAR EOC results this coming week. Students will be notified if they were successful on those tests or if they will need to retake those. Success on STAAR tests is a requirement for graduation in Texas.
