Caldwell Schools Board Report
Update from Zone 5 Trustee Marisela Pesina
September 2024
This update is intended to provide information on Board decisions, as well as school and community events.
SOCIAL MEDIA & REPORTING THREATS
In light of recent events, we would like to remind everyone about the importance of responsible social media use.
Posting threats of violence disrupts our learning environments and can cause fear, even if the author has no intent to cause harm. We have seen an increase in students creating and spreading threats on social media. Individuals found to post threats may face criminal charges and school discipline. We have, and will continue to have, zero tolerance for threats such as these which instill fear in our schools and community, and we will seek prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
If you or your child encounters anything on social media that suggests a threat to the safety of others or themselves, please report it immediately to school administration, law enforcement, or a trusted adult. Even if it seems minor, it's always better to error on the side of caution. You can also report using the See Tell Now Reporting Link.
Our collective vigilance is key to keeping our schools and community safe. Thank you to those who have appropriately reported concerning social media posts. We appreciate your attention to this important issue and your continued support in ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for our students.

SUPPLEMENTAL LEVY ELECTION INFROMATION
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Caldwell School District voters will be asked to vote on a property tax measure that directly affects the quality of education within our District: the Caldwell School District Supplemental Levy.
IMPACT ON OUR SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS
Funds generated from this levy will help Caldwell Schools maintain high educational standards. This includes daily operations like transportation costs, facility maintenance, and school safety and security. It will also be used to fund student athletics and co-curricular activities which include coaching and advisor stipends, equipment, and transportation. For the District to attract and retain highly qualified classified employees, the District must also be able to offer competitive wages. Classified staff are essential for supporting our students' educational programs, and facility maintenance.
IMPACT ON OUR TAX PAYER
The Supplemental Levy will be used to preserve the high-quality educational programs that make our schools a great choice for students in Caldwell.
- Certified and Classified Staff: $2,000,000
- Athletics: $500,000
- School Safety and Security: $350,000
- Accelerated Learning Program: $125,000
- Facilities Maintenance: $500,000
- Transportation: $625,000
TOTAL ANNUAL LEVY AMOUNT: $4,100,000/per year for two years
The estimated annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $75.55 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions.
