Many factors contribute to a student's academic performance, including individual characteristics and family and neighborhood experiences. But research suggests that, among school-related factors, teachers matter most.

Because we know that our students’ success depends on the quality of our teaching, we are always excited to commend and celebrate the excellence within our building – the Teacher of the Year process allows us an opportunity to do just that!

Our finalists this year included three remarkably talented and accomplished educators – Morgan Davidson (Third Grade and ITIC), Annette Santana (Gifted), and Grace Stidham (Fifth Grade).

FUN FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT MS. SANTANA

• Ms. Santana has been teaching since 1994 and in GCPS for a total of 24 yrs.
• She joined the Camp Creek ES staff in 2007.
• Ms. Santana spent a year doing environmental work in AmeriCorp and this includes camping on a platform in the middle of the Okefenokee Swamp
• Ms. Santana has taught 3, 4, 5 and K - 5 Science Specials and Gifted and taught 2 years at UGA teaching Reading and Writing to preservice teachers
• She has an undergraduate degree from Southwestern University in Tx, Masters degree from Georgia State, and Specialist degree from UGA.
• She loves spending time with my family and hiking in the nearby mountains.
• Ms. Santana believes ... we have to make our learning work for the greater good and that we have so much to learn and so many ways we can help the world around us.

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) invites GCPS families, Gwinnett County residents, students, and GCPS staff members to participate in the school district’s review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum Sept. 3 through Sept. 26. The public may review proposed standards online, offering feedback on AKS that have been developed to align the curriculum with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and/or Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). • All student checkouts must occur before 2:30 PM.
• If a student must be checked out early from school, a parent or guardian (who is listed in student record) must present identification before the child will be allowed to check out.
• To expedite the process, add the ParentVUE app to your phone to access student ID barcode during check out
• The parent should come to the office and request student check out with the front office staff.
• The time of checkout will be recorded by a staff member at the attendance station.
• No parent will be allowed to go to the student’s classroom to pick them up.

Lunch Visitors are not allowed at this time so that we are able to establish our schedule and procedures prior to having distinguished guests join us later in the year.

Guests will be able to join us beginning Monday, September 9.

As you plan for your visit, please note that the cost for an adult lunch is $4.00.

Once we open the cafeteria for parents / guardians to join us, we ask that you limit lunch visits to ONE per month and adhere to the following:

• Please inform your child’s classroom teacher prior to your visit.
• Designated tables and picnic tables, as weather allows, will be available for lunch guests.
• Based on space limitations, we ask that you limit 2 non-student guests per visit.
• Students will not be allowed to bring a classroom friend to join them for lunch at this time.
• Visits should be reserved for special occasions – i.e. birthday, family from out of town, etc.
• Parents WILL NOT be allowed to report to recess or classroom with students following lunch.

As a best practice, we recommend you call the front office in advance of your lunch visit to make sure there are no schedule changes, special events, grab & go meals, etc. that would prevent you from being able to join your student(s) for lunch.

Each K-5 class will visit the book fair to shop.
