The Schofield Scoop

Greetings Forestdale Families,

There have been so many wonderful things happening at Forestdale since the last 'Scoop. Below you'll see photos from students caught reading, classes working together and learning as a whole group, an author's celebration, a shout out to bus #13, and images from the annual parade of costumes.

I'd like to take a moment to give a shout out to Oliver Quinn, a 2nd grader in Mrs. Baxter and Mrs. Connolly's class. A kindergarten student on Oliver's bus dropped her fidget toy (approved for bus use!) and it rolled inside the bus. When the bus arrived at school, Oliver looked for and located this fidget toy, and made a very sad Kindergartner so very thankful and happy. Thank you Oliver for helping a student in need!

The past few weeks, I've received multiple shout outs from Bus #13. The students on that bus are consistently following expectations - staying in their seats, using soft voices, and listening to the bus driver. These students will get a special Bus 13 dismissal as a reward for their outstanding effort on the bus. Keep up the great work bus 13 riders! Let's see what buses we can recognize next month!

Reading is a huge focus at Forestdale, and we designate a good portion of student learning time to reading. Reading includes read alouds, read to self, partner reading, listening to reading (chrome book, small group reading). Giving kids lot of practice with reading helps them become more engaged, competent readers. Look below for our weekly "caught reading" pics.....

Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Cavanaugh celebrated their amazing authors this week with an author share activity. Our reading teachers joined the two classes and heard the authors read and share their "published" works with each other. These first grade writers were so eager to show their work and read with their friends and teachers.
