The Crystal Lake Police Department needs your child's help with designing the 2024 National Night Out T-shirt! They are calling on Crystal Lake 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to submit their National Night Out t-shirt design by June 28th to Officer Stolzman at kstolzman@crystallake.org. The winning artwork will be featured on the official NNO t-shirt and handed out during the event. Learn more about National Night Out here: https://natw.org/.
Free Bookstore
We're thrilled to share that the district purchased books to expand every student's library! Every District 47 school will have a "free bookstore" allowing students to shop and choose 2-3 books of their choice. English and Spanish books are available. This initiative, paid for by ESSER funds, aims to empower students by giving them the opportunity to choose books that interest them, igniting a lifelong love for reading. Book shopping at these free bookstores will continue throughout May. Chat with your child about their book selections!
We need your feedback! 2024 D47 Communications Survey

Spirit Wear Donations
As we near the end of the year, if you have any spirit wear that no longer fits your child or that you are willing to donate, please send into the South office for us to redistribute to other Sabre Cats. Thank you for spreading South spirit across our community!
Class Placement Procedure
This is the time of the year we look at class assignments for the next school year. Often times we have parents expressing an interest in the process for assigning students to our K-5th grade classrooms. Please be assured that it is not an easy task. Thoughtful collaboration takes place with all of the teams prior to the principal finalizing the class lists.
To begin, our classroom teachers collaborate together and look at learning styles, social and emotional needs, learning abilities, behaviors, and girl to boy ratios to create the most heterogeneous classes possible. Our learning specialists and support staff are involved in this decision-making process as well.
Parental requests are only considered when there is an extenuating circumstance that would require specific placement. Although we are unable to promise a specific teacher, parents may provide us with information that would help us to determine the type of classroom environment that would best fit their child. We will make the best placement we can. It is our goal to provide every child the opportunity to be successful during their years as a South student.
