ROADRUNNER REPORT
April 4th, 2025
Dear Roadrunner Families,
One of my mentors once said to me, “Every student has something to teach you that will help you to grow and become a better person.” I think about her words of advice often. This week I learned a lesson from a third grader. I was out on the playground and it was recess, so there were tons of students all over the place. I noticed a girl sitting alone so I went over to check on her. I asked her if she was o.k. and she told me she was, “having some relax time.” She shared that good ideas come into her head when she’s not thinking so hard about “all the stuff” and that sometimes she just likes to sit. As I walked away, I tried to recall when I last took a moment to just sit and let my mind wander. I find it challenging to get “all the stuff” out of my head and to be still, but I know it’s an effective practice for well being. This wise eight year old took the time to clear and calm her mind during the loud, rambunctious, joyful chaos of recess. She taught me that we can find the time during our day to be still for a moment, even if we’re at school or work. She reminded me of how important it is to break out of our continuous thought patterns and rest our minds. She also helped me to remember that slowing our minds down helps us to reduce stress and increases our creativity. Time and time again the words of my mentor ring true, and my students teach me exactly what I need to learn. Over the years, students have changed my life as much as I have changed theirs, and I’m all the better for it!
Take good care of each other and have a happy and peaceful spring break!
