Below you will find two resources. The first is a link to a PowerPoint presentation. It is a requirement that we share this information with the parents. The second is a link to a survey that allows us to document that we have shared the Title 1 information with you and allow you to give us feedback on how we are doing. Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the Christmas Cheer Food Drive. The volunteers were so appreciative. One volunteer told me that if it wasn't for the generosity of the school community (parents, students, and staff), that a lot of people would go without enough food over the winter to feed their families.

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup baking cocoa
• Dash salt
• 1/3 cup hot water
• 4 cups milk
• 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Miniature marshmallows, sweetened whipped cream or cinnamon sticks, optional

Directions

• In a saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa and salt. Add water; bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Stir in milk; heat to serving temperature (do not boil). Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Whisk until frothy. If desired, garnish with marshmallows, cream or cinnamon sticks.

For Swiss Mocha Cocoa: Add 2 to 2-1/2 teaspoons instant coffee with vanilla. For Canadian Cocoa: Add 1/2 teaspoon imitation maple flavoring with vanilla. For Slim-Trim Cocoa: Omit sugar. Combine cocoa, salt and water. Substitute fat-free milk. Proceed as above. Stir in vanilla with artificial sweetener equivalent to 1/2 cup sugar.

It is very important that car rider parents to not entered the shared campus of Swansboro High School and Queens Creek Elementary School before 2:45. Our line quickly backs up and begins to interfere with High School dismissal. Because of this, cars that arrive prior to 2:45 will be asked to leave campus and return after 2:45. Thank you for your understanding.

2. Recycling is in a crisis in the U.S. due to public confusion about recycling.

3. U.S. recycling levels are currently 21.4% (recent EPA funded Yale University Study)

4. When U.S. recycling levels reach 75% it will be the environmental and CO2 equivalent of removing 55 million cars from U.S. roads each year.

5. When U.S. recycling levels reach 75% it will generate 1.5 million new jobs in the U.S. (net).

6. Manufacturers truly want these materials back to reuse in their manufacturing, but they aren't able to reuse the materials if people don't recycle right.

The QCE Kindergarten Team is collecting dried up markers to donate to Crayola as part of the Crayola ColorCycle program. Crayola repurposes old markers and converts them into energy and wax compounds, recycling every part of the marker no matter the assembly or type of plastic. The markers do not have to be Crayola brand, the program accepts any and all markers. If you or your students have any markers that dry up, instead of throwing them away, please consider donating them to a kindergarten teacher to contribute to the ColorCycle program. Thank you!

In accordance to NC Department of Health and Human Services, OCS has updated the daily screening questions to include members of the household. If your child's situation warrants an affirmative response to any of these questions, the staff of QCE are required to follow the plan outlined in the Flow Chart below.

Car Rider Parents, Please continue to display the yellow window card until your child enters your car. The best place to display the yellow card is over the passenger side visor. This will assist the staff to quickly load the students into the cars safely.

All afternoon transportation changes will happen within the School Dismissal Manager system. This eliminates the need for notes that don't always reach the teachers or emails to the front office that might not be seen until after dismissal. All changes need to happen before 2:00pm. At 2:15pm each teacher is sent an email with a list of all his/her students and how each one is getting home.
