Kia ora West End whānau,
Firstly, a massive thank you to our Board of Trustees (BOT) for their recent investments in enhancing the learning environment for our tamariki. We’re excited to announce the addition of a brand-new school van! This van will be invaluable for school trips, sports events, and other excursions, giving us greater flexibility to provide enriching experiences outside the classroom. Additionally, our senior block classrooms have been fully upgraded with new, comfortable, and functional furniture that encourages collaborative learning and student engagement. These updates reflect the BOT’s dedication to creating a positive and supportive environment for all our students and staff.
A huge thank you goes to Te Wao Nui o Tāne for organising such a successful camp experience for our senior students. This camp was an incredible opportunity for our students to step outside their comfort zones and embrace challenges that fostered personal growth, teamwork, and resilience. From high-ropes courses to water activities, our tamariki had ample chances to learn new skills and build stronger connections with their peers. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with students returning energized and filled with stories of adventure and accomplishment.
We also extend our deepest gratitude to the amazing parent helpers who volunteered their time to assist with supervision and support. Their enthusiasm and dedication were key to making camp a success, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Having our whānau actively involved in these experiences makes a huge difference, and we are incredibly grateful for the shared commitment to our children’s growth and well-being.
These experiences and updates are a testament to the strength and commitment of our West End community. We’re grateful for everyone’s contributions and support, which continuously enrich our students’ school lives.
Thank you again, West End whānau, for your continued involvement and support.
Nga mihi,

VEX Robotics
Throughout the year, Puāwaitanga and Te Wao Nui o Tāne students have been using our amazing VEXGo kits which is a construction system that teaches the fundamentals of STEM through fun, hands-on activities. We have been learning about motors, gears, levers and building our skills of coding different robots to perform tasks.
Tipuranga Mahi
Room 14
During Book Week we had whanau visit us in Ruma 14 and see what we do at reading time and to read to us. We sang some literacy songs, wrote our heart words and read some of our favourite books. We showed kotahitanga by making our visitors feel welcomed. We used our kotahitanga by sharing the resources and activities.
Puāwaitanga Mahi
Room 6
In Rūma Ono, we have been utilising fluency buddies to extend their reading comprehension and fluency. This week we have been reading a shared text about genetics and inheritance, and learning all about the traits we share with our family members. We start our whole class reading lessons by tracking the words while Whaea Gina reads, then splitting off into fluency buddies to read the text again. Buddy A reads first, then Buddy B reads and is supported by Buddy A as needed. Later in the day, we apply our understanding of the topic by writing about what we have read, in the context of inherited traits in our family. We have shown amazing kotahitanga by working well with our fluency buddies, and whakamana by reading and writing about science, and not giving up when we don’t understand straight away.
