This is a message to all families in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. Due to the forecasted extreme heat on Monday, August 26, 2024, there will be a modified early dismissal schedule. High school and middle school students will be dismissed at 10:50 AM, and elementary school students will be dismissed at 11:50 AM. Lunch will be served to all students before dismissal. You may send a water bottle with your student so they can stay hydrated. All communications about high school and middle practices and activities will come from their school. Thank you for your understanding.

Just a few updates and reminders as we head into the week ahead:

No More Friday Early Dismissals:

We will no longer be letting out early on Fridays this year. Please know your child is expected to be at school every day from 8:50-3:50. The only other planned early release we have is the last day of school. Here's to hoping for great weather this year so we don't have any additional early-out days!

Breakfast and Beginning of the Day:

We will begin supervision of all children at 8:25. At this time, children will be allowed to exit their vehicles and either wait outside of the school, or go inside for breakfast. We will stop serving breakfast at 8:49, so if your child needs to eat at school, please get them to us in time to get their food and eat. There will be no supervision of children prior to 8:25, so please do not drop your children off early.

End of Day Dismissal:

Well, we made it through the first day of construction dismissal without any accidents, so I consider that a win! We are working to expedite the process on our end, but we do appreciate your patience as we work through the next few weeks of dismissal knowing it will take more time than is typical. Please take a moment to review our poster below for more information about dismissal expectations for parents.

Communication and Connections:

Each week you should be receiving an email or update from your child's teacher, as well as a weekly email from me. If you are not seeing these or you need additional people added to the email list, please reach out to Gale in the office to update preferences. We look forward to a great year of communication and connection with our families.

Upcoming Emergency Drills:

Each year, schools are required to participate in practice drills to ensure students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency. Within the first 10 days of school, children will practice 1 tornado, 1 fire, and 1 emergency lockdown drill. Teachers prepare students for these by discussing the reason behind the drill, how to safely complete the drill, and answer any questions children might have about the events. I have included a flyer below so you know when these drills are scheduled here at Maple Grove in case you would like to prepare your child at home, too.
