Highview Staff Appreciation Week - May 5-9
Your help is requested by the Highview Student Council and Highview Principal team to help make our Highview Staff feel valued and appreciated! Throughout the week of May 5-9, Highview Students, Student Council members, and the principal team will be working to show our appreciation for the Highview Staff. There are several ways we could use your help!
- Email/Note: A few words from your or your child go a long way to brighten staff's days. Consider sending a quick email or note (or encouraging your child to do so) as a day brightener!
- Snack/Beverage Donations Requested - This year we would like to supply a treat cart for Highview Staff Members. We are looking for easy to grab, individually wrapped snacks that we can put on a cart for teachers to access. Some things we've had in the past include: chips, granola bars, crackers, candy, soda, sparkling water, k-cups, tea, apples/cuties, nuts, and other small snacks.
- Breakfast - On Friday, May 9th, we'd like to offer a light breakfast or donuts, bagels, juice, and coffee for the Highview Staff. If you are interested in contributing or helping pick up or set up, please reach out to Deb Diederich at debra.diderich@moundsviewschools.org or 651-621-6702.
- Gift Card Donations Requested - We'd love to do a fun raffle for staff members to win some gift cards to their favorite places and are looking for $5-$10 gift cards.
- Sweet Treats and Snacks for the Lounge - We'd love to provide some sweet treats for the staff lounge.
- Teacher Supplies - Things like nice pens, a box of pencils, post it notes, sharpies, expo markers
THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping make this week a huge success for all of our Highview Staff. We are thankful, in advance, for your generosity and support! Donations (especially treat cart and gift card donations) can be dropped in the office anytime between now and May 5. If you have any questions, concerns, or great ideas about how to make this week a success please reach out to Lindsey Samec or Deb Diederich in the front office.

- May 1, Reading MAP (grades 6-7) and Science MCA (grade 8)
- May 8, Math MAP (grades 6-8)
Library Update: National Poetry Month
April is National Poetry Month!
Poetry can be represented in a number of ways. It is read in poetry collections or verse novels and found in song lyrics. It can be written or performed through spoken word. There are poets you likely know of, like Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, and Shel Silverstein. Some current to explore include Kwame Alexander, Amanda Gorman, and Elizabeth Acevedo.
In the Highview Learning Center, we are celebrating National Poetry Month through a couple of displays. One is a book display featuring verse novels, which is a form of writing that combines the storytelling of a novel with the rhythmic writing of poetry. The other display gives students the opportunity to write their own poetry using poem starters to inspire them.
You can explore and create poetry at home, too! Use this list of 30 ways to celebrate National Poetry Month at home from Poets.org.
Questions? Feel free to contact us in the Learning Center!
