We Have the BEST Teachers Here at Liberty!
Teacher Appreciation Week, 2024 - May 6th-10th
We are so fortunate at Liberty to have a team the loves our Little Leopards so completely and with complete acceptance every single day. Often times in life, we take time to tell others when we are upset or displeased, but not always when we are satisfied. Please consider finding a moment to let your child's teacher(s) know what they have done (and continue to do) really well this year. The month of May can be a time of year when energy reserves are becoming depleted due to many things that happen this time of year. Sending a few kind words refills those tanks and reminds our amazing teaching staff that they are seen and what they do every single day matters so much and makes such a positive difference in our world. đŸ’–
Attendance is SO IMPORTANT!
Our Students Cannot Learn if They are Not Here!
An attendance rate of 92% is considered safe and is our school wide goal.
Our attendance rate has improved slightly over last week! Right now we are at 90.56%. Working together, we can get our overall attendance rate for Liberty up to 92% or higher! As the year rolls on and students experience more fatigue, please encourage them to keep showing up!
The attendance graphic will be updated weekly to allow families to see current progress towards meeting this goal.
And to help our students understand the importance of being at school, we are having an attendance race! If a class has a daily attendance rate of 90% or higher, then their vehicle will move one day closer to completing the race. Every five days that a class completes the race, then the entire class who is in attendance on that 5th day will receive a small reward. We want our students to encourage each other to be at school and remind each other that we can only do this together!
In our weekly attendance rate update, we have had 8 classes finish the attendance race two times! And we have had 3 classes finish the attendance race one time! Considering that we have 12 classrooms total, that is pretty impressive. Check out the picture below of our current progress đŸ˜€
Parent Involvement Survey
What Can We Do to Help Parents Become More Involved in Life at Liberty?
Here at Liberty, we know that parents are our partners in providing the very best education to our students. In the following 31 question survey (mostly multiple choice), we are seeking input and guidance about how to strengthen this partnership. It would be very helpful if parents would take a few moments to provide us this very valuable feedback.

Information about How to Become a District Approved Volunteer
Want to Help in the Classroom or Serve as a Chaperone?
All adults who want to support Liberty as a classroom volunteer or as a chaperone must be on the district's approved volunteer list. There is a background check form to complete (linked below) and submit to the main office. Volunteers will receive an official letter to inform them of their approved status, or an individual can check with the main office.
Designation as an approved volunteer is good for 3 years and once an individual is an approved volunteer, this is good for all schools in the district.
Chaperone Expectations and Responsibilities
Our Volunteer Chaperones Make Field Trip Possible
What Do You Need to Know as a Chaperone?
As per the TSD9 K-6 Handbook:
Chaperones are expected to follow school dress code, pass a criminal background check (through the district office), and are to refrain from use of alcohol or tobacco during the field trip. Chaperones are expected to ride school transportation with the students to and from school sponsored events.
Parents electing to take their own transportation to school sponsored events are not eligible for the discounted entrance fee and may not have access to the same seating areas, bonus activities afforded by the discounted fee, etc. Siblings under 18 and/or still enrolled in school are not permitted to attend field trips with students.
Chaperones play a critical role in maintaining the safety for all students while participating in a learning experience away from the building. It is important that chaperones be able to focus their full attention on the students under their care. Therefore, siblings are not permitted to attend with the parent chaperone. And it is expected that cell phones are only accessed for safety reasons.
Additionally, it is important that images taken with a personal device are only of your individual child. Chaperones do not have permission to share images of other students on personal social media platforms. Any images for sharing on social media must be shared with the teacher to ensure compliance with any photo restrictions.
For a full outline of responsibilities the day of a field trip, reference the image below.
Head Lice Reminders
We have had a few cases here at Liberty, and we are actively working to stop the spread. However, just in case it is helpful . . . (click the download button to review the full info).

Having Lunch with Your Child at School
Lunch times at Liberty are as follows:
- 11:00-11:30 - Browning, Evans, Johnsen & Ochoa
- 11:30-12:00 - Cienfuegos, McDaniel, Travis & Wilson
- 12:00-12:30 - Camberg, Creasy/Schild, Mickelson & Moreland
Besides providing critically important nutrition, and an opportunity for unstructured play, lunch and recess serve important social purposes. At lunch, students learn how to balance social interactions with meeting their physical needs (eating while visiting). And at recess, students learn how to navigate the social landscape through interactions with their same age peers. If you are joining your child for lunch here at school, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:
- Limit the lunch with your child to one time a week, so they can continue to build their skills in eating a complete meal while visiting.
- After lunch, give them a hug and tell them to have a great rest of the day, and then exit the building. Having an adult family member out on the playground at recess disrupts a child's ability to engage in interactions with peers that support building critically important social skills. Also, we teach our students that the adults on the playground are there to keep them safe, and having extra unknown adults at recess creates confusion and uncertainty for both students and supervising staff.
Our playground is available for community use after 3:15 pm every day, so if you want to access the playground with your child, please save it for after school is dismissed for the day. Thank you for understanding!
Milk Only at Lunch
All meals are free to all students at Liberty. However, if a child is only taking a milk with their lunch that they brought from home, there is a 50¢ charge to their meal account.
If you would like your child to take a school milk with their home lunch, please make sure to have funds available on their meal account. Funds can be added to your child's meal account at our main office or via the online My Meal Time portal. Click here to check out this resource: MyMealTime
Liberty Elementary is a Title I Schoolwide School
Liberty Elementary receives federal funding through Title I to support providing a well-rounded education for all students. The eligibility for funding is determined by the community wide poverty rate. And any school with a community poverty rate of 40% or higher is able to offer supports to all students in the school. Therefore, Liberty Elementary is a Title I Schoolwide School. All students receive access to the different supports offered from this federal funding source.
