Behind the Scenes: Staff Spotlight
Frankie, Children's Librarian (and Interim Program Manager)
In just six months, Frankie has become an indispensable part of our library family, loved by staff and patrons alike. Inspired by her passion for helping children develop a love for reading, Frankie has been instrumental in planning programs that spark a love of learning and science. Her favorite part of the job is working with amazing kids and hosting fun story times. Outside of the library, Frankie enjoys spending time with family and friends and exercising on her Peloton. She also has a couple of unique talents—she once hula-hooped for over an hour without dropping it and can make balloon animals! Originally from Locust Grove, Georgia, and a graduate of Daytona State College, we're thrilled that Frankie has made her way to Indiana and the Danville-Center Township Public Library.

Book Reviews and Recommendations
"The Wolf’s Boy" by Susan Williams Beckhorn
The Wolf’s Boy by Susan Williams Beckhorn tells the story of Kai, a boy born during the paleolithic period with a clubfoot. This disability leads his people to believe that he is tabat, or cursed. His people bring him to a nearby wolf pack, hoping that they will devour him, but unexpectedly, the wolves keep the newborn safe until his human mother comes back for him.
Kai grows into an older boy, but has been made an outcast by his people; he’s frequently bullied and unable to become a hunter like his father and older brother. However, Kai finds a motherless wolf pup from the pack that spared him, and he vows to raise the puppy (who he names Uff) to adulthood. While Uff brings many moments of joy to Kai and his family, she also brings trouble and fear that make Kai’s people slowly turn against him, resulting in Kai leaving them with Uff at his side, journeying where no one else has gone before.
The Wolf’s Boy is ultimately the story of a boy learning to come into his own against misfortune and defeating odds, with the added fun of a young wolf at his side, who pushes him forward to help him realize his potential and find his strengths and courage. She also gives him hope and a reason to keep going on in the face of everything turning against him, serving as his unwavering source of strength.
It was fascinating to read how Kai overcame each of his challenges. I always had to know what would happen next to Kai and Uff, and I was never disappointed to find out! This would be a great book for older kids looking for a boost of encouragement or inspiration, or anyone just seeking a great adventure story in a unique prehistoric setting.
