The Roadrunner Review
May 29th, 2024
Notes from the Principal
I am excited to share that our very own Mrs. Rodziewicz was "Caught in the Act!" Deb Traeder from the Wausau School Distruct Foundation surprised her here at Riverview with the award. She was nominated by Emily Ramthun and below is a small excerpt from the nomination....
"Mrs. Rodziewicz goes above and beyond in everything she does whether it’s at Riverview Elementary or in the community. She not only is an engaged library educator to kindergarten thru 5th graders, but has been a Leader in Me Coach/Lighthouse Team Member since 2021, assists with technology when tech mentors are unavailable, assists with the biannual Bike/Walk/Roll to School Day, volunteers her time for anything that is needed, helps the Riverview PTO, and is an engaged community member volunteering her time with her children's activities."
Thank you Kathy for everything you have done here at Riverview. Your dedication to our students and staff does not go unnoticed and we wish you all the best at Horace Mann!

Kickball game
Even though we had to reschedule several times due to rain, the first K-2 students vs. staff kickball game was a success! The students outscored the staff, but fun was had by all. Our grades 3-5 will hold their game today, so maybe staff will outscore our older students this time. Thank you to our students for showing good sportsmanship on the playground during the month of May.
Next year bussing
This applies to students in grades K-12 only:
Here is a link to the yellow school bus application. A few things to note:
Students in grades 6-12, who live in an area served by Metro Ride, are not eligible for yellow bus transportation. To learn more about Metro Ride’s Express Routes, click here.
First Student generally provides home-to-school transportation for these situations:
Student resides more than two miles from their home school
Student resides in an area identified in the District’s Hazardous Transportation Plan
Students with transportation identified in their Individualized Educational Program (IEP)
Bus stop locations are determined by the home address the Wausau School District has on file for your student(s). You'll want to make sure the address you provide on the yellow bus application is the same as the one the district has on file. If you need to change the home address on file for your student(s), please call the Longfellow Administration Center at 715-261-0500.
First Student will be reaching out to you via email with timing and route information, rather than U.S. mail. If you have any concerns about that, or have other questions, please call First Student at 715-842-2268!
FOR 4K AND EARLY CHILDHOOD STUDENTS: 4K and EC families please follow the guidance provided through email from the 4K office at the time of registration regarding bus transportation.
Summer Learning begins June 10th!
Families of students enrolled in Summer Learning should check their child’s backpack for a packet of information, if they haven’t yet!
A water bottle will be needed each day. (please label your child’s water bottle with their name)
If your student is in G2M and you want them to have sunscreen/bug spray applied at school, please complete these forms:
You will need to provide and label the sunscreen and bug spray.

WSD Pupil Nondiscrimination Self-Evaluation Report
Wis. Admin. Code § PI 9.06 requires school boards to evaluate the status of nondiscrimination and equality of educational opportunity in the school district at least once every five years and report the results to the Department of Public Instruction.
As part of that work, a team, made up of Wausau School District staff, including administrators, put together the Wausau School District Pupil Nondiscrimination Self-Evaluation Report. Now that the report has been compiled, we need to provide an opportunity for participation by students, teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and residents of the school district. If you would like to share a comment, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Andy Grimm, Coordinator of Pupil Services, via email at agrimm@wausauschool.org
PI 9.01 Discrimination prohibited
Public schools in Wisconsin cannot discriminate against students based on characteristics like race, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. This includes admissions, programs, and activities.
Exceptions are allowed for special programs designed to meet the specific needs of students, such as gifted and talented programs or special education.
The full report can be found here: https://www.wausauschools.org/departments/pupil-services
iPad Collection
The 2023-24 school year is quickly coming to a close and summer vacation is rapidly approaching. The Wausau School District appreciates your patience, understanding, and participation throughout this past school year. Your input and involvement has made a tremendous difference!
At the beginning of the school year, your child was issued an instructional device set. Your family may have also taken a US Cellular Hotspot for home internet access. Each of these items will need to be returned to your child’s home school in good working order by the end of this school year. Students enrolled in Summer Learning will also need to return their Instructional Device Set at the end of this school year. We will take care of providing their same Instructional Device Set to Summer Learning as needed. Please review the items listed below to determine which you will need to return.

If you are aware of missing or damaged items please contact your child’s school for directions. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
WSD Flyers
Here at the Wausau School District, we recognize that, in addition to our schools, non-profit community organizations offer engaging and enriching programs, activities, and events to students. To ensure you know about these programs, we have an 'E-Flyers' page available on our website, at all times, that lists them.
This list, which includes upcoming athletic camps, school productions, as well as other community-wide events, is updated as new flyers come in.
