A Message From Principal Kilpatrick
Dear Highlander Families,
We had a great start to our school year! It is great to have our students back in the building and ready to learn! Thank you to our families for such a smooth start to our year.
We had to make a change to our PTA/Parent Orientation event. The new date will be Tuesday, September 3rd at 5:00 P.M. Come and see your child's classroom! At orientation, the teacher will also be reviewing classroom and campus expectations, and grading policies. Thank you for your understanding of the date change.
Morning W.I.N time will begin the week of September 9th. W.I.N. time or (What I Need) is a time when teachers will be personalizing instruction to further meet the unique needs of each learner in every classroom. It is a period of reinforcement, support, and/or enrichment within the classroom or across the grade level. This year W.I.N time is embedded in our daily schedule from 8:00-8:30. It is very important that students arrive on time so they do not miss this important opportunity.
Within this newsletter, you will find important information regarding changes to the District's attendance policy as well as Safety updates, events and calendar items. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you for a wonderful start to our year!
Sincerely,
Vicki Kilpatrick,
Proud McAndrew Principal

Safety Reminders
Please help us keep our students safe.
If you are walking with your students into the building, please park in our parking lot. The drop off lane is only for student drop off, not an area to park.
Also, please keep our crosswalk clear of cars in order for everyone to cross safely. Cars should stop either before or after the crosswalk.
Run,Hide Fight
In the next few weeks, your student will be discussing lock-down/Run Hide Fight strategies within their classroom. For K-2, this will take place during a guidance lesson with Mrs. Amy Flores, our Counselor. Grades 3-5 will view a video within their classroom.
In this video, Lt. Kelley Fryar from the Northside Independent School District highlights the significance of school safety and being prepared for an active shooter scenario. The video presents three primary response choices: run, hide, or fight, along with practical advice for each option. It urges administrators, teachers, and staff to evaluate their surroundings and decide on the most suitable course of action. The ultimate goal is to encourage dialogues about school safety and cultivate a sense of community vigilance throughout the district.
Parents will receive a letter/notification from the campus one week prior to the video lesson. The video can be found on the District's Safety Website. Please contact your child's teacher if you do not want your child to participate in the video or lesson.
Lost And Found
We already have a few items in our Lost and Found! Please help us by adding your student's name to waterbottles, lunchboxes, jackets and hoodies. All Lost and Found items are donated at the end of the school year.
