DHS Cheer, and Spike, and Oakie - OH MY!
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us to celebrate our community at our first Community Circle of 24-25 on Friday! We sang, we celebrated, and oh did we dance. 🕺 Did you see Oakie's moves?!
With the help from our friends Spike and the DHS Cheer Squad, we kicked off our favorite tradition with ALL. THE. SPIRIT. 💚 💛 💙 💛
Our next Community Circle (Friday, 9/20 @ 8:30am) will feature a special Hispanic Heritage Month celebration! 💃
If your family wants in on some DHS Bulldog action, you can cheer on the 2-0 football team this Friday and at next week's homecoming game - both at 7:30 @ DHS. For more on all fall sports, check out the DHS Athletics page!
Assessment Reports and Upcoming Conferences
The STAR Reading and Math Assessment Diagnostic reports will be in your child’s Communication folder today. The Fall Conferences are an excellent opportunity to discuss the report with your child's teacher. They will be held over a two-week window Sept. 30th-October 11th. Be on the lookout for how to sign up for a conference from your child's teacher.
SPIRIT WEEK: SEPTEMBER 9 - 13 (NEXT WEEK!)
AUTHOR VISIT!
We're very excited to host Mia Armstrong as our first author visit of the year! Mia and her mom will visit with and read to all grade levels on Thursday, October 3rd. Order forms are in your child's communication folder.
The deadline for this book order is THURSDAY, September 19th.
Checks payable to: Oakhurst Elementary School
Cash (exact change) is accepted.
CogAT Testing for First Graders
On September 5-7, all first grade students will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Unlike traditional achievement tests, which measure how well a student has learned the curriculum, the CogAT assesses a child’s ability to reason abstractly and recognize patterns and relationships in the world around them. Teachers can use CogAT scores to better understand a child’s pattern of strengths and weaknesses. Our school district also uses CogAT scores to identify academically-gifted students.
Parents, please review the additional information provided in last week's classroom newsletter. Testing will take place September 5-7 from 10-11 a.m. Please email awilliams@csdecatur.net with questions.
Important Information about Gifted Review:
Each fall semester the Gifted Review Team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at the website below) and turn it in to Amanda Lockwood at alockwood@csdecatur.net by Wednesday, October 2. No additional information is needed.
For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact Ms. Lockwood or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/Page/581.
