ASSESSMENT APPOINTMENTS & STAGGERED START SCHEDULE
A few helpful tips for the assessment appointment and first few days of school!
During the assessment appointment, the teacher will ask you how your child will be dismissed at the end of the school day - parent pick up, bus or day care van. Your teacher will provide you a tag to place on the back of your child’s book bag. It is important that the child come to school on the first day with this tag in place. You may bring your child’s book bag to the assessment appointment so that you and the classroom teacher can place it in the appropriate spot.
On the first day of school, we ask that you take pictures at your home. If you want pictures on the school grounds, please take pictures at any time after school hours. The beginning of the day can be overwhelming and we need to get the children to their classrooms.
Parents are not allowed to enter the building and walk their child(ren) to the classroom for safety protocols. We have every available staff member inside and outside the building to make sure every student is well taken care of and gets to the right classroom.
The assessment appointment is a great way to practice the entrance (based on how the child arrives at school - buses and day care van release at the front of the building and parent drop off is on the side of the building) and how to get to the classroom.

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL DETAILED INFORMATION, VIDEOS AND MAPS
HELPFUL REMINDERS & SAFETY EXPECTATIONS for ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
ARRIVAL
Please seat your child in the rear passenger seat of your vehicle. Remain in your car and allow a staff member to support the student when exiting from the vehicle.
Please stay in your car if you are in the drop off line, do not pass through this lane, do not pass other cars and do not use your cell phone during this time.
It is important that you follow the instructions and directions of all crossing guards for entering and exiting the ELC & Swickard Woods Boulevard.
Students are permitted to enter the building and exit cars at 9:08 am to help facilitate traffic flow. The ELC staff will remain outside until 9:22 am assisting families with drop off. Please note that at 9:22 am, staff will enter the building to assume other responsibilities. If arriving after 9:22 am, parents must escort their child to the front office to sign them in at the front desk..
Parent support in making morning drop off more efficient:
Families are encouraged to utilize the student drop off line rather than parking and walking to the school door. The drop off line actually increases efficiency and safety procedures in the morning. Parking is limited and by using the student drop off line this will keep the crossing guard from stopping traffic.
Have your child ready to exit the car with all items in the book bag and coat ready. A staff member will help your child with their coat and bookbag when exited from the car and is in the safe zone.
Please pay attention to traffic and staff and keep the car line moving. Often the back ups in the morning are due to a car holding up the line by not moving forward.
Dismissal
Students who have not been picked up by 11:50 am (Preschool AM), 12:40 pm (Kindergarten AM) or 3:55 pm (Preschool and Kindergarten) will be taken to the main office. If you arrive after the above times please pick up your child in the ELC main office. Thank you! Late pick ups will be documented.
Dismissal Changes - If there are any last minute dismissal changes for the day please call the school office at 614-413-8700 prior to 3:00 pm so we can notify the teacher about any change in routine. Please do not email/call the teacher for same day changes as they may not have a chance to check email or voicemail prior to dismissal. If your child attends the morning program, please call 30 minutes prior to the scheduled midday dismissal time.
Dismissal will not be delayed in the event of inclement weather. Please monitor the local forecast and have your child prepared for the potential of rain and/or snow. Dismissal will only be delayed if conditions warrant unsafe travel for children (i.e. lightning or tornadic conditions).

TRANSPORTATION FOR KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES
Transportation information is scheduled to be released on August 12th* by the Transportation Department. To find bus numbers and pick-up and drop-off times in PowerSchool, click “Forms” and then choose the form titled “Student Demographic Information”. Questions about bus transportation can be directed to the Transportation Office at 614-855-2033. *The date is subject to change.
Please note that state law requires that preschool and kindergarten students must be released to a responsible person. Kindergarten students are normally met by a parent when they get off the school bus. In the event that a parent is unable to meet the kindergarten student, then please authorize one or more alternatives. This can be an older sibling, neighbor, etc. All possible “persons” that your child can be released to must be on the attached document. Please print, complete and provide to the bus driver on the first day of transportation or give to your teacher at the assessment appointment. Please make a copy for your reference. BUS PERMISSION FORM, click here
PRESCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION
*Preschool students on an IEP that utilize bus transportation do not need to add information into the intent form. If you have questions regarding transportation for your preschool child on an IEP, please contact Ms. Zieber at zieber.1@napls.us
**Preschool Peer Models are not eligible for busing.

PTO Updates
Families of New Albany Early Learning Center,
As we settle into the new school year, we invite you to consider supporting the PTO through membership, volunteering as a head room parent, or joining a PTO committee.
Don't miss out on our spirit wear sale, ending on September 13th! Proceeds from the sale benefit PTO programming.
Joining is simple and commitment-free! Visit our new membership site at https://napls-pto-membership.square.site, where we offer a special family membership option for those with multiple children in the district.
If you have a passion for organizing and love being involved in school activities, consider becoming a Head Room Parent (HRP) to enhance your child's educational journey.
Our PTO relies on parent volunteers to support New Albany Schools. If you're interested in volunteering with the ELC PTO, please complete the opportunity form.
We are seeking individuals to join us as the Vice President of Hospitality for the 2024-2025 PTO Board. This role involves leading hospitality activities to create a welcoming and inspiring environment at our school. Contact us at naplselcpto@napls.us to learn more about this role.
If you're not interested in joining the PTO or volunteering, consider making a donation to support our programs and initiatives. Your support benefits all students and ensures they have amazing experiences.
Thank you for supporting the PTO!
Sincerely,
Lauren Amery
