Freshman/Sophomore Off Campus Passes
Historically, it has only been junior and senior students who could apply for a pass to leave campus during the school day. In our continued efforts to de-densify, we are extending the ability to leave campus to sophomore and freshman students. The following conditions apply for freshman and sophomore students to receive an off campus pass.
- The student's parent/guardian must consent to the student arriving late or leaving early.
- The pass can only be for the beginning or end of the day. As an example, if a student does not have class mod 1 on a day, the student can have an off campus pass to not arrive at school until mod 2. Or if a student does not have class 13th and 14th mod on a day, the student can have a pass to leave after 12th mod on that day.
- Families are responsible for transporting the student to or from school at these different times.
- Students can pick up a form to apply for an off campus pass in the dean's office. Once the form is filled out and signed by a parent, return it to the dean's office to receive a pass on the back of the student's school ID.
- If you have questions, please contact the student's dean.
Service Learning Information
- On average students should complete 10 service hours per semester throughout high school.
- We have currently had limited ability for students to complete service hours since last March.
- For 10th-12th grade students, service hour expectations for graduation are currently reduced by 20 hours. 60 hours.
- For 9th grade students, service hour expectations for graduation are currently reduced by 10 hours. 70 hours.
- We will continue to monitor the ability for students to complete service in the coming months. We will make additional adjustments if it continues to be difficult to complete service hours.
Nebraska Now Early College Program
New interdisciplinary, introductory-level undergraduate course Water in Society. This course is highly innovative and touches on many of today's most pressing water-related challenges in Nebraska and beyond. You can take this course and many others through the Nebraska Now program. See more information below.
Current high school students are able to enroll in the course for a significantly reduced tuition rate ($330) and, if they receive a B or better, will be eligible for a $1000 merit-based scholarship to UNL.
Completion of the Water in Society course will also help students meet UNL undergraduate general education requirements (either ACE 4 or 8). In spring, 2021, the course will be 100% online and asynchronous, giving students maximum flexibility to complete the course at their own pace from anywhere with support from a fantastic instructional team.
This course and other Nebraska Now courses are for college credit only.
