LCPS to Host Focus Groups on Grading and Assessment Changes
In the spring of 2024, we received extensive feedback from educators, parents and students on the challenges, and possible solutions, associated with implementing Grading and Assessment Policy 5030. A summary of the feedback and a timeline for policy review and potential revisions were presented to the Curriculum & Instruction Committee in September 2024. Now, LCPS is beginning the process of revising Grading and Assessment Policy 5030.
As a part of this process, we are seeking volunteers to participate in focus groups to review the current policy and provide recommendations on proposed solutions and potential policy revisions.
This week, families will receive an invitation from the superintendent to fill out a form indicating their willingness to participate in a focus group. Participants will be randomly selected from those who indicate their interest in being a part of the process. Please check your spam or junk folder if you do not see a link from me by October 8, 2024.
Focus groups will be held in person between October 21 and 30 at the LCPS Administration Building, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn, VA. Focus group participants will be placed in groups with volunteers in the same category of either parents/guardians, secondary teachers or students. School division leadership will present the topic and then step out for the discussion. They will be available at the end of the session for any follow-up or questions.
Individuals who are not interested in or selected to participate in a focus group will have an opportunity to provide written feedback via a Let’s Talk form. Please be on the lookout for an invitation to sign up to participate in a focus group and/or provide written feedback. Your contributions to the process will be invaluable.

PSAT DAY @ Riverside
Freshman-Sophomore-Junior Parents,
If your student will be leaving early after the PSAT on October 18th, please submit an early dismissal pass for them as soon as you can. This will help us with having them processed early and a dismissal pass ready to students prior to the time of their dismissal.
You can submit your request through PVUE, email, or a handwritten note. We cannot do early dismissals without it being in writing. We would also like for you to know that if you plan to pick up your student without a note there will unfortunately be a wait to do this.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in trying to make this process as smooth as we can.
Senior Parents...you have already received an email from Mr. Mason on the options for Seniors. That was sent again on Friday, October 11.

Interested in applying to The Academies of Loudoun?
As the Fall 2024 PSAT testing day draws near, please understand high school students interested in applying to the Academies of Loudoun MUST have a PSAT (NMSQT) score on file in order to apply to the Academies of Loudoun during the 2024 Winter Admissions Cycle.
The application portal will open in December for students applying to programs for the 2025-26 school year. HOWEVER, students MUST have a current PSAT or SAT score to apply. If you are a current 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student planning to apply for an Academy program next year, make sure you take the PSAT on Friday, October 18!
LCPS Making News!
LCPS was ranked the Number 4 school division in Virginia in Niche’s 2025 Best Schools and Districts list. LCPS ranked behind Falls Church, Arlington, and York County Public Schools and ahead of neighboring Fairfax County, ranked 6th, and Prince William County, ranked 14th. According to Niche, its rankings help families become familiar with schools and neighborhoods. The platform uses user reviews from students, alums and parents plus data from the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate schools and school divisions.
