Message from Administration
Happy Homecoming Week
Dear Families and Guardians,
We want to express our gratitude for the tremendous support and positive participation we witnessed during Homecoming Week. Our students' enthusiasm, school spirit, and dedication to making this event a success were truly inspiring. From the creative decorations to the lively activities and sports events, their engagement showcased the best of our school community. It was heartwarming to see everyone come together, building lasting memories and friendships. Thank you for encouraging and supporting your students—it made all the difference!
In Cardinal Pride,
Chad Brusky & Brooke Schultz
Spotlight on a FJSHS Staff Member
Working in secondary education can be difficult at times because students don't always share the positive impact staff members have on them. Part of this is due to how busy our students are transitioning between 7 classes in a day. FJSHS staff find motivation and pride in hearing their efforts are appreciated. Please consider using the form below to recognize a staff member in the building who has help make your student's life a little better. Maybe it is something your child mentions in the car, or while stilling around together as a family. Sharing they small moments of joy, recognition or appreciation can help us not only bring pride to the work we do, but also help us identify those moments so they can be replicated for your child.
Again, please consider recognizing one of our staff members whenever you hear the impact they have had on your student by completing the Staff Recognition Form.
Cardinals Give Back Day!
If you or a business you represent have a need for some extra helping hands this spring, please consider filling out an application for a service project. The application can be found on the school’s website at www. Fairmont.k12.mn.us, click on Menu at the top of the page, click on Documents and select “Service Project Application 2024.” Applications can also be found on the district's Facebook page and paper copies are located at the Fairmont Jr. Sr. High School office.
All applications are due by Monday Oct. 7th. Please contact Principal Brusky if you have any questions about the service project day by emailing him at cbrusky@fairmont.k12.mn.us or by calling the office at (507)238-4411. We are thankful for all the support the community has provided the school in the past. We hope our “Cardinals Give Back Day” provides you with the same pride in your local schools and serves as a model of the positive things we are able to accomplish when we work together.

Pick-up Reminder
If you are picking up your student(s) after school, please be aware of the no parking areas. We have a couple locations where buses pick up students. We try our best to keep these areas free of cars so that buses have the space to safely navigate the area in front of the school and load students as safely as possible.

Cell Phones
Cell Phones and /or Personal Electronic Devices Expectations
9th - 12th grade parents: Cell phones are expected to be in lockers, except during lunch time. They can check phones during passing at their lockers only.
7th - 8th grade parents: Cell phones are in their lockers all day and they should not be checking them. It works great to turn phones off.
A Message from our Social Workers
September is Attendance Awareness Month
We know that students who attend daily have better grades and test scores. We encourage students to be on time and in school daily so they can be the best version of themselves. Some attendance tips include:
- Set a regular bed time and morning routine.
- Put all electronic devices away at bedtime.
- Have clothes set out and backpacks ready the night before.
- Avoid medical appointments during the school day. If a student needs to have appointments during the day, try to stagger times or schedule them during the student’s study hall, so the student is not missing the same class each time.
- If a student is having anxiety about coming to school, talk to teachers or the school social worker about advice on how to feel comfortable in school.
- If your child has a fever or is throwing up, please keep them home. Just make sure to call the attendance line, send a note, or use skyward to report the absence. Also make sure to have your child find out what them missed.
If you notice that your child is struggling to attend school or just needs help to get caught up in classes after being gone, please reach out to your child’s social worker for support. Mrs. Peymann works with students last names A-L and Mrs. Thompson works with students M-Z.

Resource on Vaping & E-Cigarettes
Nearly all e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm the developing adolescent brain. Because the brain is still developing until about age 25, youth and young adult exposure to nicotine can lead to addiction and disrupt attention and learning. No amount of nicotine is safe for youth.
Over one in five of Minnesota high school students who has tried e-cigarettes has never tried any conventional tobacco products. Recent evidence suggests that, compared to youth who have never used them, youth who have tried e-cigarettes are much more likely to start smoking in the future.
Hear & Vision Screening
Hearing and Vision Screening takes place on Tuesday, September 24 for 8th and 10th grade students.
