McGowen Families,

Your child has reached an important milestone! The staff of Jesse McGowen Elementary is excited to welcome you and your child to Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking forward to a positive home-school partnership to ensure that Kindergarten is a successful experience for not only your Kindergarten child but for your whole family. Our Kindergarten is a full-day program from 8:00am to 3:10pm. We believe Kindergarten is the foundation for future learning.

Kinder experiences include:

• Literacy (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

• Math (concepts and number sense)

• Science

• Social Studies

• Collaborative and cooperative learning

• Responsible and independent work habits

• Critical thinking strategies

Transitioning into Kindergarten is different for every child. It will be important for you to guide your child to find his/her way to independence. Your child will have opportunities to develop strong relationships. It is our goal that each class develops a community centered on positive relationships with peers and the teacher. Our Kindergarten program is geared towards developing the whole child, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.

Prior to the start of school, we will host a Meet the Teacher Night for our students. This event will be held on Monday, August 5th from 5:30-6:30pm. All students for the 2024-25 school year will have the opportunity to meet the teachers and tour the classrooms. Pre-ordered school supplies will be delivered to each student’s homeroom.

We welcome you to McGowen Elementary and we are happy to have you as a part of our school community. We will be hosting a Kindergarten Screener on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 9 to 11 am.

School Supplies

~A supply package can be ordered, but if you prefer to shop, a list of items is included below:

~Please do not label school supplies.

~Please be prepared to bring a backpack without wheels.

~Your child will need to bring a labeled water bottle and snack to school every day.

~Your child will also need to bring a change of clothes in a labeled bag.
