Fall 2024, Volume 1
FROM AHS...YOU CAN GO ANYWHERE!!
Greetings Seniors and Parents!!
We are just a little over a month into your senior year of high school! It already seems like it's flying. This year will be full of exciting events to mark your last year as an Abernathy Antelope. It will also be a very busy year as you take steps to prepare for your future whether it be through the avenue of a two or four year college or trade school, military or workforce. Several colleges have already presented to our seniors in their Government classes - Texas Tech, LCU, WT, Angelo State, SPC, and Wayland Baptist. Shout out to Mr. Pugh for getting all of these schools to come out early in the year to visit with students. We will continue to have visitors from other campuses, the military and the workforce with us throughout the fall semester. I also have visited with seniors in English classes about more college, career, and military information including application processes, FAFSA (which is delayed again), scholarships, etc. They should have a folder with tons of great information. We hope this will help initiate and guide conversations at home about options and steps after high school. Mr. Pugh has also started visiting with each senior individually to help guide them in their specific post-secondary plan.
For the college and trade school path, this fall is the time to complete applications and essays, continue ACT or SAT testing if needed, and apply for scholarships. The Free Application for Financial Student Aid or FAFSA is scheduled to open at the beginning of December. We are proud to partner with LEARN Inc. in helping our students and families complete the FAFSA. More information including a parent meeting will be coming in late October/early November. The ASVAB will be offered on October 30th for students interested in the military or if you are still trying to decide that perfect career path. I'm so excited for each of you and wish you the best senior year. Please let us know however we can help you throughout the year.
