Parents,

If your child is NOT currently in Accelerated Math and/or Advanced Language Arts, but he/she has scored in the 95th percentile or above on the MAP Test in reading or math within the last year, you can register your child for the upcoming CogAT Test for possible gifted placement in 6th grade.

If your child IS currently in Accelerated Math and has scored in the 98th percentile or above on the MAP Test in math, you can register your child for the upcoming CogAT Test for possible placement into Double Accelerated Math in 6th grade.

The CogAT Test will be administered to all 6th graders and REGISTERED 5th graders on Wednesday, November 7. You must register your child by October 12. Use this link to register for 5th grade CogAT.

Last week this school year’s PTO Directory was updated on Directory Spot, our online directory app. All families should have received notification about how to access. This year the data came from Final Forms, specifically the new Student School Directory (Opt-In) form. All families have access to Directory Spot and the EH Greene School Directory through October 1, and it is recommended that you log on to review the directory information for your student and make any updates. After October 1, the directory will only be open to those families who have joined the PTO. If you have not yet joined the PTO you can find information on how to on this webpage - https://www.sycamoreschools.org/Page/2908. Please direct any questions about the Directory to ehgreenedirectory@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting the PTO.

Our PTO is now accepting Requests for Funding (Projects) for the Fall and staff and Greene School families are invited to submit a request form. Please submit your form by Monday, October 29, 2018. The Project Committee will respond to your request by Monday, November 12, 2018.

Thank you to everyone who attended the PTO Meeting this week, both in person and via our live stream. The Greene School counselors presented on Raising a Resilient Child. To view their presentation click HERE .

We had some great discussions on how we can continue to support our students. We are looking into educational experiences across several platforms, as discussed: social emotional learning, examining screen time, and the ability for our parents to manage the internet filter off campus. We are currently brainstorming ways to better serve our students in these areas.

We wanted to pass on a couple of resources to you. Below you will see the chart that was referred to for emotional regulation. We also wanted to share a tech tip. Finally, here is an article from the Washington Post with some strategies for helping your middle school child.

Our last PBIS video features bus behavior. Again, this is another area where being SAFE is the key! As you watch the video with your child, please talk with him about the importance of safe behavior on the bus. All of our busses have the Aviator Expectations posted and they have been reviewed with the children by the bus drivers, as well as in the classroom. Pointing out the “non-Aviator” behaviors that our staff is demonstrating is a fun and enlightening way of reminding your children what is expected. We hope have you enjoyed viewing our PBIS videos! Stay tuned for next week’s newsletter where we will focus on Aviator expectations at home!

We will be doing a second order of team t-shirts! If you would still like to order a shirt, please use this link to order. You can send in $8.00 cash or check (made out to E.H. Greene) to your child's homeroom teacher. Please make sure your child's name and homeroom teacher are clearly marked. Order MUST be placed by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12th. This will be the LAST order for this school year.

In an effort to become more eco-friendly and streamline our communications with families, we will be increasing our use of social media to help everyone stay connected. We’ll be posting to the PTO Facebook page and private Facebook group to share news about upcoming events and activities. Log in to your Facebook account and follow "Edwin H. In an ongoing effort to provide a safe learning environment, Sycamore is requesting parents, students, and staff to inform administration (or whoever) of any perceived incidences of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.

Per the Sycamore Board of Education policy JFCF, harassment, intimidation, and bullying are defined as any provoked and intentional written, verbal, electronic or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another particular student more than once and the behavior both:

1. causes mental or physical harm to the other student; and

2. is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for the other student.

Sycamore will do everything possible to address any complaints of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. We encourage students, staff, parents, and community members to report this type of behavior to the district if help is needed to solve a problem.

To report an incident of harassment, intimidation, and bullying,

1. Go to the website, www.sycamoreschools.org under Academics, General Education, Parent Resources, Anti-Bullying

2. Scroll down until you see the Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Incident Reporting Form for the individual schools.

3. Fill the form on-line and submit it electronically.

4. Hard copies of this form are available in each of the schools.

Complete the hard copy of the report form and turn it into the building principal.

The building principal or designee will promptly investigate all reported incidences.

It is difficult to investigate reported incidences that are anonymously submitted. However, every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality of the reporter. Deliberate false reporting of harassment, intimidation, and bullying is prohibited.

The Sycamore High School Orchestra is excited to announce their upcoming concert to take place this Tuesday, October 9th in Sycamore High School's Auditorium. We are honored to have the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, Philharmonia Orchestra join us on the combined concert. The program will include pieces by Elgar, Dvořák and Brahms and will conclude with a CCM/Sycamore "Side-by-side" performance of Brahm's Hungarian Dance #6. The free concert begins at 7:00 pm and is open to the public.

Everlasting Monsoon, Sycamore Schools' popular student band, will perform at the 2018 Flight Fest! Every year a teacher (Lisa Zelvy) has written a song for students to sing for Flight Fest. This year is so Special! The 7th Graders in Everlasting Monsoon volunteered to write the song. We can't wait to hear them present it!

Sycamore High School is hosting a Variety Show Saturday, October 6th @ 7pm in the HS Auditorium. Tickets: $10 available pre-sale at www.aveschoir.org starting September 21st / $12 at the door.

Acts feature groups and soloists who are members of the student body including vocal and instrumental groups, cool human tricks, gymnastics, a performance by all choral ensembles and more! Proceeds benefit the Sycamore Vocal Boosters.
