Family Literacy: Native American Heritage Month
There are many ways to celebrate and honor diversity. Building cultural literacy helps our students become ethical decision makers in our diverse world. This month we celebrate the contributions and history of the Native Americans. Native peoples have adapted with the changing landscapes of our nation since time immemorial. Through struggles and triumphs, from the earliest points of colonization through our modern time, Native Americans and Alaskan Natives have continuously endeavored to be of service to their communities, protect their lands and life-giving waters, and maintain the traditional ways of life that have been passed down from one generation to the next. This month, we can learn about the Gabrielino and Tongva peoples who are native to Long Beach and the surrounding land. You can watch this video and native land dedication with your children:
Jackie and Shadow, the Eagles of Big Bear, have visited their nest nearly every day for the last week. Their long summer hiatus around the lake without nest visits lasted almost 2 full months. Check out the live cam and you might hear them "chortling" back and forth to each other. They are stepping up their nest visits and making their nest stronger with each addition.
Celebrating Excellence and Equity at Powell

Ever student and staff member signed an Anti-Bully Pledge and created a chain of UNITY, KINDNESS and INCLUSION on our campus ! Please talk to your child about their experiences with Unity Day. Enjoy the video:
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
