These procedures are for the safety of our students.
Please read this information carefully and follow the policies and procedures. Our goal is to efficiently receive and dismiss students while keeping them safe.
Don't Drop-Off Too Early - DROP-OFF BEGINS AT 7:50
Please do not drop off students before 7:50 AM. Do not risk your child's safety by leaving him/her unmonitored on the front porch of the school. Staff is not on post until 7:50. Parents who repeatedly leave students unattended will be referred to the BCSD Social Worker.
Don't Be Late - STUDENTS ARE LATE AFTER 8:20
Students are tardy after 8:20 AM. Parents/guardians must sign-in their child/children at the office after 8:20 AM. DO NOT send the child into the office alone.
Early Check Out - ENDS AT 2:30
Student may NOT be check out of school between 2:30 – 3:20 p.m. unless it is an EMERGENCY. The instructional day ends at 3:20. To maximize student learning students MUST be engaged during the entire instructional day from 8:20 - 3:20.
Expectations of Drivers
- Pull safely and slowly into the carpool drop-off/pick-up area.
- Display the carpool number card in the windshield during dismissal.
- Remain in your vehicle in the drop-off/pick up zone and do not leave your car unattended in the carpool lane. If you need to enter the building for ANY reason, you must park in a parking space.
- Please be patient and polite while you wait. Carpool drop-off/pick-up will be safe, calm, and orderly. School rules will be followed and enforced. Failure to follow these procedures may result in a permanent suspension from campus.
- Do not call or motion for your student to come to you when you see them waiting in our loading zone. The staff has a safety plan that we follow to get the student to the car.
- The parent/guardian will have to come in the office for car riders not picked up on time by 3:50 PM. Repeated failure to pick up your child on time could result in referral to the BCSD Social Worker.
- If you do not have a carpool number card, you will need to park, come in and check the child out through the office. Anyone who does this must be listed on the child’s profile in Parent Portal and present photo identification.
- All drivers are expected to follow these expectations and procedures for dismissal.
Morning Arrival
FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC PATTERN
The carpool lane is for drop-offs only between 7:50 AM – 8:20 AM
STUDENTS MUST NOT EXIT CARS UNTIL 7:50 AM
Students may enter the building at 7:50 AM
Students must exit the car on the PASSENGER SIDE and are ready to exit when you pull up.
There is only one lane during carpool drop-off.
Afternoon Dismissal
FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC PATTERN
The carpool number card MUST be displayed during carpool dismissal.
The carpool lane is for pick-ups only between 3:20 PM – 3:50 PM.
Please form two lanes during carpool pick-up.
Students must enter the car on the PASSENGER SIDE.

Driving Directions
From Hall St. - Enter Womack St. (this street is immediately behind the school) from Hall St. (Hall St. is accessed from Gray Hwy. or Fort Hill St.); make a right turn onto Mitchell St.; then make a right turn onto Fort Hill St; finally make a right turn onto campus.
From Shurling Dr. - Enter Fort Hill St. from Shurling Dr.; continue pass the school to Hall St.
From Maynard St. - At the 4-Way Stop sign at the intersection of Mitchell St. and Fort Hill St. make a left turn onto Fort Hill St.; continue pass the school to Hall St.
Restricted Turns During Carpool Times
PLEASE ONLY MAKE RIGHT TURNS INTO THE SCHOOL DRIVEWAY DURING CARPOOL BETWEEN 7:50 AM– 8:20 AM and 3:20 PM– 3:50 PM.!
Carpool Number Card - REQUIRED DURING DISMISSAL
Each family will be issued 2 carpool number card, which will help with an efficient dismissal and will ensure each student is matched with his/her parent. Any person who does not have a school issued carpool number card will be required to show identification in the front office.
It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure that anyone who will be picking up your child is LISTED IN PARENT PORTAL AS A CONTACT AND HAVE A CARPOOL NUMBER CARD. If your family needs more than two cards, you will need to request additional cards at the front office.

WALKERS
Students coded WALKER must have an address on file that is within the “walk-zone”. All walkers will be escorted to the designated walk zone on either Mitchell St. or Hall St.
Walk-up Parents or Parents who drive and want to greet their children designated as WALKERS as they exit the building will need to park their vehicle in the designated areas on the map for WALKER PICK-UP. Hall St. (on the side where the house with the yellow siding) and Mitchell St. (on the barber shop side).
Non-walk zone parents cannot avoid driving through the carpool
line by changing a carpool student to a walker student.

Burdell-Hunt Magnet Elementary School of the Communicative Arts
The purpose of the magnet program at Burdell-Hunt Magnet Elementary School is to integrate the magnet focus of multimedia, Spanish, and writing into the basic curriculum in order to produce responsible citizens who are proficient in communication and problem solving.
