PRINCIPAL’S PĀNUI
Thank you to everyone for collecting students early on Friday for teachers to attend Paid Union Meetings. Tawa Class hosted a lovely hui-a-kura/ assembly on Thursday afternoon, sharing a song about how to be a good friend to others and honouring our students who were recognised for being fantastic Bucket Fillers and those who have been particularly showing our ASPIRE Value - Integrity.
The Rural Cluster Swimming Sports at Wai-o-Rua Pools for Year 5-8 was a fantastic event. Ngaere did a wonderful job with the organisation and once again the supportive spirit among our tamariki was a highlight of the event as they cheered for and encouraged each student throughout their races. We are incredibly proud of every student who got into the pool and gave it their best and the team spirit of our students.
Thank you to all of the parents and whanau who are partnering with us in their child's learning through helping them to complete their home learning. You are really making a positive difference for your child/ren by giving them a chance to strengthen their learning through much needed practise and showing that you value their learning. We have seen an increase in engagement over the past few weeks and teachers would like to expresse that they really appreciate your support and can see the difference it is making for students in their learning.
Our Year 8's had a Pizza and Pool Party with the Year 8s from Eltham and Avon School's on Monday. The feedback from all the students and schools was really good. They had a great time and enjoyed getting to know more students who they will head off to high school with next year.
We have a great end to the term lined up, with Year 5-8 Athletics at Eltham on Tuesday, Wood is Good, a forestry and log transport programme coming to school on Wednesday and our annual Hollard Garden Easter Picnic on Thursday (details below).
We hope that all our students and whanau have a lovely long weekend this coming Easter Weekend, we have some very excited children at school who are looking forward to a visit from the Easter Bunny and some chocolatey treats. They don't stay little long enough, so enjoy making special memories with your kids and we will look forward to seeing them back at school on Wednesday 3 April.

Happiness Highlights
Our senior school has the highlights to shine a light on this fortnight, starting with the Year 5-8 cluster swimming sports. It's a fun day seeing the seniors who turn up on the day ready to give it their best, often pushing themselves out of their comfort zone to do so. There was lots of cheering from our spot in the stands for their fellow Pembroke competitors and a few of our amazing swimmers even made it into the finals after finishing well in their heats.
Mr Sharp and Rimu class headed into New Plymouth last week for a visit to Puke Ariki, a stop for lunch at Ngamotu beach and then they climbed Paritutu rock. If you see the head students shout out below you can read a little more about what Rimu class got up to on their big day out.

In the Spotlight
Hiding Friday!
Every Friday in Rata class the children get to hide from Mr Single. The children look forward to Hiding Friday all week and are always super good at tidying up before morning tea on a Friday because they know that when they come back they can hide or dress up like statues and try to camouflage themselves so Mr Single can't tell there are children in the class. When Mr Single comes in he has to call to the children and they can come running out of their hiding places, often doing their best to scare us in the process!

Head Student Shout Out
On Tuesday 16th March our class took a trip up Paritutu and went to a wonderful museum well known as Puke Ariki or the hill of hill of chiefs where we learned about Maori and how they moved around and we played some fun games. After our quick session downstairs we went up to the special section with all their games and we blessed ourselves with water. After our tour through the Maori exhibit they sat us down and talked about how they made instruments and then sent us into groups where we worked out how to use certain tools. After learning how to use tools we learned a quick Maori game called Mato Maui. After our rotations were over we sat down again, asked some questions and listened to the shell horns and said thank you, then we left to go to a park and Ngamotu Beach where we had lunch. We got changed into hiking clothes and made our climb up the scary Paritutu where the parents helped some students climb up and stay calm. At the top we hung out and took some photos. After a bit we started to descend Paritutu rock in little groups.
