A Note from the Superintendent
Dear FSD 157-C Families,
As we approach the end of November, I want to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our students’ success. Your involvement makes a tremendous difference, and we are grateful for the strong school-home connections within our community. As a reminder, Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place next Monday and Tuesday, providing an excellent opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers and discuss their progress.
Throughout the month of November, all three of our schools continued their traditions of service-learning opportunities for students. At Hickory Creek Middle School, students, families and staff participated in “Penny Wars” to raise nearly $12,000 for Honor Flight Chicago. At Chelsea Intermediate School, students, families, and staff participated in the annual Stack the Stock event, donating non-perishable food items to the Frankfort Township Food Pantry to support local community members. Collectively, the Chelsea community collected more than 1,500 items for the pantry. At Grand Prairie Elementary School, students, families, and staff collected donations for U.S. servicemen and women serving both overseas and at home. Candy, snacks, small holiday decorations, toiletries, socks, games, handmade cards, and other items were assembled into more than 20 care packages for service members.
The generosity of our entire District community is incredible, and initiatives like these teach our students the value of giving and helping others. We are grateful for the supportive members of our community who set great examples for our students.
Finally, at the beginning of the month, the Illinois State Board of Education released the IL School Report Card data for each school throughout the state. District administration presented the findings from the report at the Board meeting on Tuesday, November 19. You may review the email sent from the District on November 4 linked here for more information. In addition, the district administrative presentation on our accountability measures can be found here.
Enjoy the Thanksgiving break!
Sincerely,
Doug Wernet, Ed.D.
Superintendent
