MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Franklin Students and Families,
The first semester is coming to an end. Next week is finals week! Monday there is no school as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. Learn more via the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Hotel about how “he never chose fear, but always chose courage and determination when fighting for civil rights in the face of oppression, ignorance and violence.” Think about how we can continue Dr. King’s legacy of nonviolence, peace, and justice for all.
Tuesday we will have an all 8-day schedule and Wednesday - Friday we will follow the finals schedule with Tutorial times at the end of each day.
Next, I have an important message about taking care of our school building. We have had to close some bathrooms at school due to graffiti depicting harmful hate speech that needs to be painted over and other serious damage to toilets and plumbing. Closing bathrooms is always a last resort, but is needed to provide students with a safe and clean environment.
Everyone suffers when we have to close the bathrooms so we need your help to identify who is causing this damage. Here’s what you can do:
Report any damage or problems to a teacher or staff member right away. You can also use SafeOregon to report any issues anonymously.
Do not throw items in the toilets or damage anything, it can take days to resolve.
If you see something that’s wrong or unsafe, say something.
Thank you,
Dr. Z

It's Forecasting Time!
Forecasting season is upon us. We love this time of year because it is when students get to have their voices heard in the classes we offer at Franklin. This past Thursday, Franklin students had the opportunity to hear about Franklin programs during our Forecasting Fair.
On Monday, January 13th, current 10th and 11th graders will be participating in grade-level assemblies to learn about the forecasting process and get their forecasting sheets. They will have access to Student VUE to begin entering their requests at that time.
Current 9th graders will learn about the process in their inquiry class during the first week of second semester.
Students rely on families to help them make great choices for the next school year. Because classes at Franklin are a year long, it is very important that students take forecasting seriously. Franklin has so many amazing advanced coursework opportunities that can help students explore their interests and prepare them for their post high school future. Families can learn more about the forecasting process by visiting the counselors website linked on the Franklin page. They can read course descriptions on the Franklin Digital Course Guide linked on the Franklin Quick Links (right-hand side of the FHS homepage). Thank you for your help in supporting your student through this process.

Everyone is welcome to attend a celebration to honor retired boys' basketball coach, Scott Aker, on Friday, February 7th. The meet and greet will start at 5:00pm in Room G-018 (basement of the gym building) and Coach Aker will be recognized at halftime of the boys' varsity game. Use the code word "AKER" to get into the game for free. Here is a bit of information about Coach Aker:
