On this Day in History: December 9th
- In 1990, Lech Walesa elected president of Poland
- In 1992, U.S Marines storm Mogadishu, Somalia
- In 1934, New York Giants beat Chicago Bears in “Sneakers Game.” According to the NFL, The outcome of the 1934 NFL Championship Game, played at the Polo Grounds in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, was perhaps determined by an unusual x-factor: basketball sneakers. The showdown between the Giants and Bears was a rematch of the previous year’s title game in which the Bears had prevailed, 23-21; undefeated Chicago had already beaten New York twice during the 1934 season. After two quarters, George Halas’ Bears looked poised to win again, and held a 10-3 lead. The Giants' team treasurer, John Mara, had noticed prior to the game the playing surface was frozen, slippery and difficult to navigate. Mara alerted the coach and team captain and the Giants came up with an idea. To improve traction, the Giants borrowed sneakers from the basketball team of nearby Manhattan College -- they wore sneakers in the 2nd half and the plan ultimately worked. The Giants scored four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win the title, 30-13. The game thereafter became known as “The Sneakers Game.” https://www.nfl.com/100/originals/100-greatest/games-62 --Brooklyn
CCA's December Character Trait: Patience
This December character trait of the month that CCA students are working on is patience. I asked Fallon, Allie, and Carissa what patience means to them, and here’s what they said. “Patience means to stop talking and to listen,” according to Fallon. Allie said, “Having self-control and being able to withstand a lot without getting irritated” is patience. Carissa said, “Patience is waiting for the right moment and not jumping ahead of God’s plan.” Proverbs 19:11 says “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.” –Miyah

CCA Performs during Clinton Lighted Christmas Parade
On Friday, November 29th, some members of the CCA concert band, along with 4 cheerleaders, a few parents and students participated in the Lighted Christmas parade on the Clinton square. Students played, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," "Silent Night," "Angels We have Heard on High," "Deck the Halls," and "We Wish you a Merry Christmas." Thank you to Dale & Sue Munsterman, Mrs. Townsend's parents, for providing the truck, trailer and generator for the event. Even though it was cold, the band played well! Thank you to all who attended and helped represent CCA.
🎺Class Feature: Concert Band 🎶
Kynlee sat in on the concert band class on Tuesday, December 4th to see what they have been learning. Students came in, sat down in assigned seats, put together their instruments and started warming up. The first songs they played were, “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Away In a Manger” on hand chimes. Then they played through “Sleigh Ride” on their normal band instrument. Students practiced the problem areas of this song a few times before moving on to the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Beginning & Concert Band will have a concert on December 16th at 6:00 pm in the CCA gym. Students have been preparing Christmas songs since September for the event. All are welcome to attend. Students should wear: Christmas colored dressy attire or the traditional black, white or gray concert attire. No jeans or shorts should be worn. Boys should wear a collared shirt, sweater or uniform shirt with slacks. Girls should wear slacks, a skirt or a dress (knee length) with a collared shirt, sweater or uniform shirt. No spaghetti straps please! No tennis shoes, unless that is all you have. Please be modest and keep in mind that students will be performing from the stage, which is elevated.
If students are sick or unable to attend the concert for any reason they will need to write a paper on a musical composer to make up the points missed; the concert is worth 100 points of their band grade. Contact Mrs. Townsend with questions.

CCA Chapel ⛪
On Friday, December 6th, Johnathan Presley visited CCA chapel to bring a message. He talked about Beniah, and how he was a fighter. Beniah went into a pit and killed a lion. He was always ready, especially when God gave him an opportunity to make a change for God's glory. His main three points were 1) to be ready at all times, 2) we have to learn to confront our fears, and 3) be an agent of change. We need to be ready all the time- 2 Timothy 4:2 says to be ready in season and out of season. God wants us to make a change for His glory. God has a plan for all of us; so don’t be scared, face your fears so you can do what God is calling you to do. Beniah did hard things with God's help. When we do things that seem crazy to the world, it gives us a chance to share Jesus. We can give Him the glory and share with people that He helps us do crazy things. Remember, you can do hard things with the help of Jesus, who is with you all the time! -Allie
