Dr. Patterson's Weekly Update
April 25, 2020
Happy Saturday Eagles!
We hope you all have had another fantastic week! We continue to miss our students terribly.
As a reminder, we do have our next K-2 packet pickup Monday, April 27 beginning at 8:00am. The boxes of packets will be left out late into the evening, so time should not be an issue for parents needing to pick up packets. There will also be a box for returning completed packets and a box for returning library books. Please turn these items in as you are picking up packets on Monday. Please do not hesitate to send an email message or DoJo message to your child's teacher, Dr. Patterson, or Mrs. Gualtieri if you need assistance. Additionally, we are available via phone in the office Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 12:00pm. Please call us at 910-347-1261.
Message from Dr. Barry Collins, Superintendent of Onslow County Schools on April 24, 2020
At a press conference this afternoon, Governor Roy Cooper issued an executive order closing all North Carolina Public Schools for face-to-face instruction through the end of the academic year. In response to the Governor’s announcement, OCS Superintendent Barry Collins releases the following statement:
Schools are essential to our community, and we understand Governor Cooper’s decision to close schools to face-to-face instruction for the remainder of the current school year is disappointing. This means our students will be missing out on many of those things which traditionally mark the end of our academic year. However, we understand the need to prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff and families.
While our school facilities may be closed, OCS will continue to provide remote learning through the end of the scheduled academic year, and our Student Nutrition Hubs and Technology Repair sites will continue operating as scheduled.
District staff will be reviewing the governor’s most recent order and guidance from the State Board of Education to determine the impacts of this unprecedented closure. As we review today’s decision, every step will be taken to provide maximum support and ensure minimal negative impacts to our students, staff and the larger school community.
We appreciate the tremendous effort our staff are giving to provide remote instruction, meet our students’ nutritional needs and address their social and emotional learning. The school district remains committed to continuing support for our school community during this challenging time.
OCS will be reviewing today’s decision and more direction on issues important to our students, staff and parents will be announced in the coming days. We would like to thank our families and the Onslow County community for their support as we move forward.
