We are looking forward to a busy November! Our Student-Led Conferences are on Thursday, November 7 and Friday, November 8. The link to book a time was shared on Seesaw on October 21 and a paper invitation was sent home the same day. If you are unsure of your booked time, please call the school office. As these conferences are student-led, it is important that your child attend with you; this is not a regular day of instruction for students. Thank your for respecting teacher's time and arriving on time for your child's conference. Each student is allowed one conference; if you wish to talk with a speciality teacher, such as Mrs. Kosza, please call the school office.

Veritas Parent Support Group
A message from Birke Schemmerling-Araujo, VPSG Chair . . .
The Veritas Parent Support Group (VPSG) has had a good start to this school year! Fundraising is one of the main activities of the VPSG, with a goal of raising $30 000 this year!
VPSG Executive: The VPSG Executive includes a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Birke Schemmerling-Araujo is our Chair, Ashley Medeiros is our Vice-Chair, Gillian McCutcheon is our Secretary, and Joan Iamele is our Treasurer. If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to reach out to me (Birke) via text (250-615-1491), Facebook, or email (birkepferd@hotmail.com).
Fundraising: Thank you for your support of the Davidson Orchard fundraiser! 189 boxes of apples were sold, which resulted in a profit of approximately $2360! In the month of November, Mom's Pantry and Purdy's Chocolates will be released.
Bakers: The VPSG is looking for bakers for their Christmas cookie tray fundraiser! If you are able to donate some Christmas baking, please contact Birke!
VPSG Meetings: School / class activities are discussed at each meeting, which enables parents to feel more connected to the school and interact with other parents. We are always looking for more parents to join us - many hands make light work. The more input, the more ideas that can be generated. The next VPSG meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov 12th from 7 to 8pm. There will be coffee and tea available, and childcare will be provided in the gym by a few of our dedicated grade 8/9 students. We look forward to seeing everyone!
Hot Lunch: This Hot Lunch session began the last week of September and runs until Christmas Break. Each Monday, individual Pizza Hut pizzas or homemade soup alternate each Monday and other lunches are scheduled for Wednesdays. The grade 3 parents are responsible for Wednesdays in the month of November and the grade 8 parents are responsible for Wednesdays in the month of December. The operation of Hot Lunch relies on classroom reps and volunteers to assist each Wednesday; if volunteers are not found, that week of Hot Lunch may be cancelled. Hot lunch orders can be placed at https://munchalunch.com/schools/veritascatholicschool/
Volunteers at Veritas
- Criminal Record Check: All parents must have a CRC on file at the school office before volunteering in any school activities. CRC's are valid for five years. If you haven't completed yours, you may do so online at https://justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck and use the access code DLTLFMPHUE. Please call the office if you have any questions.
- Driver Information: In addition to a current Criminal Record Check, all volunteer field trip drivers must have a current driver's abstract on file before volunteering as a driver on a school field trip. Driver's abstracts must be renewed when your driver's license is renewed. To complete your driver's abstract, please visit https://onlinebusiness.icbc.com/clio/. Vehicle insurance must also be on file and a new copy provided when your insurance is renewed. A copy of your drivers license is also required.
Additional Notes and Reminders
- Epicure Fundraiser: The grade 9 class is running an Epicure fundraiser, with proceeds going towards their year-end trip. A paper form was sent home near the end of October, with orders due by November 22. This link can be used to place orders: https://berthusband.epicure.com/en-ca/cc/attach/CAKhYIwehjKdxc37nRdo
- Spirit Wear Orders: A paper copy of an order form for Veritas Spirit Wear was sent home at the end of October. Four items are available for order: sweatshirt, hoodie, t-shirt, and toque! These make great Christmas gifts! A visual of what can be ordered is below; please contact the school office if you need another copy. Orders are due by November 5.
- Cell Phone Use: Parents/Guardians may not contact their child via their cell phone during the school day, as students are required to power off their devices. Please call the school office directly at 250-635-3035 if you wish to contact your child or leave your child a message.
- Before School Supervision: The supervision of students prior to the 8:35 bell is limited to the front of the school and the parking lot area. For the safety of our students, students are not permitted on any playground equipment (front playground or kindergarten area) or in the fields before school hours as these areas are not supervised before school.
- Absentee Notes: Please contact the school explaining your child's absences with a Seesaw message to "Office Staff" and your child's teacher, an email to the office (veritas@cispg.ca), or a phone call (250-635-3035). Absentee reports are crucial to our school's funding, as numerous unexplained absences throughout the school year can mean less government funding for your child.
Catholic Corner
Each month, Veritas is focusing on a Saint. The month of November, students will be learning about St. Martin of Tours, who lived in the fourth century. He is the Patron Saint of Soldiers, which fits nicely with Remembrance Day this month. St. Martin of Tours is also remembered for sharing his cloak with a beggar. For this reason, we are collecting gently used winter coats for those in need in our community. Any coats that are clean and in good condition can be brought to the school office throughout November.
In the Catholic Church, November is the month of All Souls and All Saints. The Solemnity of All Saints will be celebrated on Friday, November 1 at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Parish, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until noon. Mass on All Souls Day (Saturday, November 2) will also be celebrated at 9:00 am. Father James will bless the graves at the Terrace Municipal Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 3. All are welcome to gather and pray for the departed.
Our November school Mass is on Wednesday, November 20 at 9:00 at Sacred Heart Parish. The grade 9 class is leading this Mass and all are welcome to attend!
The grade 4 class received their Bibles during the school Mass, which they led!
Grade 5 has been learning about trajectories with bow and arrows!
Classes ran 1-5 laps around the school block.
Over $3000 was raised for the Terry Fox Foundation!
The Terrace Fire Department brought the Fire Safety House to grade 4!
Thank you to our Terrace Fire Fighters!
Grade 1 with their cereal donations to the Terrace Church's Food Bank!
Thank you to our school community for your donations!
Fall soccer in the sun is always fun!
