I can't believe we are already well into the second quarter of our school year! Time flies when you're having fun! Report cards for the first quarter were available online last Wednesday, November 1. If you haven't done so already, you can access the digital report cards by clicking here. Reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions about student markings or progress.

This year's Color Fun Run was a great success! Our students had an amazing time at the event and helped raise approximately $15,000 dollars to support projects at our school! I can't thank you enough for your time, hard work, and generosity. I would like to recognize Mrs. Avellan and her 5th grade students for being the class to raise the MOST money overall. See below for the top earners from each grade level that got the chance to color bomb Mrs. Kepa at the event:

On Saturday, November 11, Morgan Woods will participate in the annual Tampa Bay Veterans Parade. Our students and school are proud to continue our partnership with this program, and to celebrate the veterans that serve our country and TNC community. We encourage you to line the parade route to help us cheer on our vets!

Parents are invited to have lunch with their child on the day scheduled for their grade level. Bring a blanket or a chair and your favorite thing to eat! The dates for each grade level's Lunch on the Lawn are listed below. Shortly before your child's event, a flyer will be sent home with additional information--including arrival time and sign-in procedures. Please call the office with questions!

• Friday, November 17 - 5th Grade
• Friday, December 1 - 4th Grade
• Friday, December 8 - 3rd Grade & 1st Grade
• Friday, December 15 - 2nd Grade & Kindergarten

In math, your child will be exploring partitioning shapes into equal parts (fractions). Students will show mastery of this concept when he or she can:

• Partition shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths in a variety of ways.
• Explain the more fractional parts an object is broken into, the smaller each part will be.
• Count fractional parts in the whole and make connections between lines of symmetry and partition.

Try this at home:

• Be on the lookout with your child to find halves, thirds, and fourths wherever you go together. One great place to find fractions is in the kitchen, so get your child involved in cooking or baking with you!
• Have fun with splitting a chocolate bar, pizza, or any food into fractions with your child. Ask questions as you are splitting the food into equal-sized parts (Example: If I split the bar into 2 equal-sized parts, are the parts still large? What will happen to the size of each piece if I break it into 4 equal-sized parts or fourths?).

In math, your child will be exploring division strategies. Students will show mastery of this concept when he or she can:

• Extend their knowledge of division to include quotients with up to four-digit or five-digit dividends and one-digit or two-digit divisors, including remainders as fractional parts.

Try this at home:

• Discuss with your child situations where you might need to divide. List the situations and write an equation to divide a four-digit number by a one-digit number for each situation. (Example: I have 243 comic books divided among 9 shelves. How many comics go on each shelf?)
• Write the digits 1-9 on separate cards. Write six four-digit numbers on separate cards. Have your child choose one of each type of number. Tell him or her to divide the four-digit number by the one-digit number by drawing a model. Discuss what to do if there is a remainder.
