PACKING FOR THE STREETS
JMS will be holding their next Packing for the Streets on Monday, February 3, for students to earn 30 minutes of service hours. During this event we pack bagged meals for nearby homeless shelters and Heart to Heart Food Pantry. There is a QR code posted in the hallways for students to sign up if they are interested. Your student can also use this link, but he/she needs to be signed in with their school email address so we can take accurate attendance. Each student is asked to complete 5 service hours during the school year and are due by mid-April.

WRITING ASSESSMENT
On Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, all students at Jones will take the second segment of the writing checkpoint assessment. The initial data point was collected from students in October. Staff will use the new results to assist students in refining their writing goals to enhance their skills. Furthermore, the results from this assessment will help students and staff prepare for the upcoming state assessments scheduled for April.
Please make sure your student gets sufficient rest and has their ipad fully charged for the assessment. We will run an adjusted schedule, so make sure students are at school on time to take the assessment.

DISTRICT NEWS
Requesting Retesting to Qualify for Concilium (gifted English language arts)
Requests for gifted testing for the purpose of qualifying current 6th and 7th graders for Concilium (gifted English language arts) in the 2025-2026 school year must be received by March 1, 2025.
Students must be identified as gifted in both superior cognitive ability and reading to receive gifted services through Concilium. The STAR Reading assessment is used to identify students in reading. In middle school, students are identified as gifted in superior cognitive ability via individual or small group testing.
If your student is identified as gifted in reading and you would like to refer them for evaluation of giftedness in superior cognitive ability, please email Shannon Gagel, Gifted Education Coordinator, at sgagel@uaschools.org.
K-12 Visual and Performing Arts Gifted Identification Process
Parents, teachers or students can nominate students for Visual and Performing Arts assessments. This is a multi-step process where students will first be rated on their artistic talent by a teacher with knowledge of the student. Then, if that rating meets the screening criteria, your student will be invited to bring a portfolio of art or to audition outside of the district for trained arts instructors on 3/8/25 in New Albany. All of the information on this process is available here. The deadline to submit nominations is 2/10/25, though I would encourage you to complete the nomination process as soon as possible.
UACA Golden Apple Awards
The Upper Arlington Civic Association is excited to announce that the annual Golden Apple Award nominations for 2025 are here! This prestigious award can go to ANY faculty or staff in our schools. Your votes count! The winner of the Golden Apple at each school is decided by YOU! Any parent, student, colleague or community member can make a nomination. You can also nominate more than one person!
Visit www.UACA.org to fill out a nomination form between January 6 at 7:00 a.m. and February 28 at 11:59 p.m.
TECH ASSISTANCE
iPad Parent Control Information
The UACS Technology department provides 2 ways for caregivers to manage screen time, review web history, manage apps and internet access after school hours. The typical built-in Apple ScreenTime and Parental controls do not work because the district manages iPads for school use at a district level - the typical consumer level settings are not available. Caregivers can review web activity and disable internet access through the Lightspeed Relay Parent Portal. Additionally, caregivers can control app access and set rules through the JAMF Parent app. Questions may be directed to FamilyTechHelp@uaschools.org.
