December was a fast and furious month as time seemed to move at warp-speed towards the holidays. Students were engaged in a variety of holiday-themed activities throughout the month that put them all in the Christmas spirit. Crafts, STEM projects, stories, food...memories were definitely made in classrooms this month! I had the wonderful opportunity to visit each classroom before break and read my very favorite book to all EES students, Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree. Hopefully you all saw their Christmas tree that they got to trim after the story was over (ask them about that vocabulary word!).

Just so you aren't worried that it was all fun and games this month, the students all took their second round of NWEA testing earlier in December. As I have looked over the results of this assessment, I am amazed at all the growth that our students have made over the past semester! This is a testament to the hard work and dedication that your students and our staff put in each and every day. And of course, we couldn't move the needle without your support at home! Student achievement is a team effort, and I am grateful to be part of such an amazing team here at Eaton Elementary. Thank you for being a major part of our team!

We had an amazing turn out at our elementary Christmas program on December 14. The kids looked great, and they sounded amazing! A special thank you to all who helped set up and tear down for the event as it is quite an undertaking. Also, a huge shout out to Mrs. York for making the program possible! Our PTO was busy in December! Thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time and/or items for our Santa Shop. The looks on the students' faces when they purchased items for loved ones were so heart-warming. This is such a neat opportunity for our students to practice the trait of generosity and giving.

On December 8, the PTO's Christmas Movie event was a hit! We had a huge turn out for the movie, and the kiddos all enjoyed their popcorn and water while they watched The Grinch. Thank you all for your patience as we dismissed the students...we sure had quite a line!

The PTO is always looking for volunteers, so just reach out if you are interested. The next PTO meeting will be on January 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the EES library. We hope to see you there!

Winter's chill is in the air!! Please be sure that your children are dressed properly for recess. We will be heading outside for some period of time as long as the windchill is above 20 degrees. Please make sure your child has their heavy coats, gloves, and hats on these chilly days. If you are in need of any of these items, please call the office for assistance.

Due to the solar eclipse that will be occurring on Monday, April 8, 2024, Delaware Community Schools had decided to cancel school on this day. Delaware County is in the path of totality for this eclipse, which local officials say will likely bring an influx of visitors to the area. Also due to the timing of the eclipse, safely dismissing students would be very difficult to do. We will be using our first scheduled inclement weather day, Friday, February 16, 2024, to make up this cancellation day. Thank you for your understanding, and please reach out if you have any questions.

Daily attendance is crucial for your child's learning experience. Our dedicated teachers are moving your child forward each day with new learning, and it is important for our students to be in class each day. We know sickness arises, and students must be out for 24 hours if they have fever or are vomiting.

If a student is absent for a doctor's appointment, please remember that a doctor's excuse must be presented within two days of returning from the absence for it to be an excused absence. Please make every effort to schedule appointments for after school times or during school breaks. Thank you for your help with this!

Please make every effort to avoid transportation changes past 12:30 p.m. If students are leaving early for appointments, please contact the teacher (send a note or message on the class app the day before) and the office as well. Communicating with the office and the teacher helps us stay on the same page.

Students involved in extracurricular activities will be expected to stay after school each time the activity meets. We know that things come up, so please send a note if you need your child to go home instead of attending their activity.

If you are bringing your child to school or picking them up, we need you to use the car drop off line. This is important for us to keep everyone safe! Also, if you are in line, please stay in line and wait for the cars in front of you to move. Do not drive out of the line as we have a few students who exit from the driver's side of the vehicle. Thank you for your help in this!

If you plan to volunteer or chaperone any events for the 2023-2024 school year, I would encourage you to get your background check completed early. In the event that a more detailed background check is required, it will take additional time to be completed. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to keep our students safe.

The bus drivers at Eaton Elementary are amazing at getting your child to and from school safely. Behavior on the school bus is something that we take very seriously. Below, you will find the expectations for all bus riders at Eaton Elementary. These expectations help ensure safe, problem-free bus rides.

Jan. 5- Report Cards go home

Jan. 15- No School, Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Jan. 17- Grades 3-5 Science Fair, time TBA

Feb. 16- School is in Session (make-up day for April 8 Solar Eclipse Day)

Feb. 19- No School, Presidents' Day

Mar. 1- Inclement Weather Day, No School currently, but potential make-up day

Mar. 22-29- Spring Break

Apr. 8- No School- Solar Eclipse Day
