The Board Bulletin is published monthly following the voting meeting of the Board and is for informational purposes to keep the West York Area School District Community informed of Board happenings and is not intended as an official record of meetings. To view official meeting minutes, please visit BoardDocs and click on the specific meetings of interest. Each meeting's minutes are presented to the Board for approval at the following meeting. Vacancy: WYASD Board of School Directors
The West York Area School District Board of School Directors has a vacancy for the term ending December 2025 and seeks candidates to fill the seat. Please share this information with those in the West York community who may be interested!
Candidates should send a letter of interest and current resume to Ms. Sheri Schlemmer at slschlemmer@wyasd.org.
The candidate search will close on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM. All letters of interest and resumes must be submitted by that time. Candidates will receive information about next steps on Monday, February 3rd.
Interviews will be conducted on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, prior to the Work Session of the Board. The successful candidate is expected to be approved and take the oath of office at the February 18, 2025, Board Meeting.

Board Meeting Highlights
Tuesday, January 21, 2025 - Board Voting Meeting
- The minutes from the January 14, 2025, Work Session were approved.
- Mr. Will Plappert, High School Student Council Vice President, shared updates from the High School.
- Dr. Davies shared updates from the District in his monthly report, which included the annual School Director Appreciation Month and a mention of the Dinner and a Show event for Golden Bulldog Pass holders.
- Mr. Jonathan Hoffman, representing all District principals, presented the Board with words and gifts of appreciation.
- Ms. Sheri Schlemmer, CFOO, shared a 2025-26 preliminary budget presentation.
- Public Comment:
- There was no public comment.
- Action was taken on the following items:
- Course Selection Guide 2025-2026 High School.
- Course Selection Guide 2025-2026 Middle School.
- Curriculum changes/instructional materials adoption.
- Donations include $4,000 from the BD social club and gift cards from West York classes of 1999-2002 alumni.
- Driver recommendations 2024-25.
- Field project update.
- Final policy review(s)/approval(s).
- Inventory removal for food services equipment.
- Issuance of citations by district administrators.
- Letter of support - York County Children's Advocacy Center.
- Local audit.
- School director resignation - Mr. Brian Siatkowski.
- School-related travel: Husky Dog Pound Entrepreneurship competition.
- School-related travel: V5RC Eastern PA State Championship.
- Student expulsion 12-24-7286-9
- Student expulsion 12-24-7286-10
- Student expulsion 12-24-6705-11
- Turf, Track & Court update.
- Personnel items to include new hires, transfers, resignations, volunteers, etc.
- Approval of monthly financial statements.
- Informational Reports, including the district rentals, enrollment reports, and conference reports, were shared.
- Other Matters included:
- Food Service staffing update.
- Legal expenditures Information.
- Poverty Simulation schedule for Directors to attend.
- President Rice adjourned the meeting.
Work Session Highlights
Tuesday, January 14, 2025
President Rice called The Work Session to order.
A roll call of Directors was conducted.
The minutes from the December 10, 2024, meeting of the Board were approved.
Ms. Appnel shared a STEELS presentation, along with a few District teachers.
Dr. Davies shared an Assessment Data presentation.
Discussion items included:
- Middle and High School 2025-26 Course Selection Guides.
- Curriculum Changes / Instructional Material Adoption.
- Donations from the BD Social Club and WYASD Calss of 1999-2002 Alumni.
- Driver Recommendations.
- Fields Project Update.
- Inventory Removal of a Double Decker Convection Oven.
- Issuance of Citations by Secondary Administrators.
- Letter of Support for the York County Children's Advocacy Center.
- Local Audit.
- School Director Resignation.
- Second Policy Reviews.
- Spectator Code of Conduct Policy.
- Other matters for discussion included:
- There will be one school-related trip on the voting agenda.
- There will be three expulsions on the voting agenda.
- A Wallace Facility Dog update.
- School Director Vacancy Timeline.
- Personnel Recommendations for action at the January 21st Board Meeting were shared with the Board.
- Personnel Action included the Trimmer Acting Principal Agreement extension
Committee Reports:
- Note that internal committee minutes are attached to the Work Session agenda in the month following the committee meeting.
- Internal Committees:
- Budget and Finance Committee - There was no meeting. Treasurer Gettys noted that there will be a preliminary budget presentation on January 21st.
- Cocurricular Committee - Director Rice shared that the next meeting would be March 18th, at 5:30 p.m.
- CEC Committee - The next meeting is February 18th, prior to the Board Meeting.
- Educational Programming Committee - Director Herman reported on the EPC meeting held immediately prior to the Work Session. Topics were Course Selection Guides and Science Curriculum.
- Facilities Committee - The next meeting is January 21st, prior to the Board Meeting. Will be going over our five-year plan.
- Foundation for the WYASD - CFOO Sheri Schlemmer reported President Lisa Barshinger resigned. We still have a Vice President and Treasurer.
- Wellness Committee - The next meeting is scheduled for January 23rd.
- External Committees and Boards:
- West Manchester Township Recreation Committee - Director Herman reported that a meeting was held on December 18th. Looking forward to spring sports and summer park program. Director Herman let them know that we would be moving forward with the softball field at the Middle School. The next meeting is in February.
- York County School of Technology - Director Harlacher and President Rice reported there were no meetings.
- York County School of Technology Authority - Director Rice reported that there was no meeting.
- York Adams Academy - Director Myers reported that there was no meeting.
- York/LIU Joint Authority and LIU Board of Directors - Treasurer Gettys reported there was no meeting for the Joint Authority. The LIU Board met, and Dr. Marchese is now in place.
Public Comment:
There was public comment from a parent and a student.
President Rice announced that there would be an executive session following the meeting, and he then adjourned the meeting.

Meetings are held in the Administration Boardroom for in-person attendance, via Zoom, and live-streamed on our District YouTube channel. Note: Public Comment is only accepted via in-person attendance.
