Dear Godwin Heights Middle School Families,
It was wonderful to see some of you at our parent focus group this past Thursday night. Your input and support are invaluable as we continue working to make our school the best it can be.
This week, our students and staff have been hard at work in the classroom, staying focused on learning and growth. As the weather begins to change, please remind your child to dress appropriately for the conditions and follow our school dress code.
Looking ahead, we’ll be emphasizing the importance of discipline — both in schoolwork and behavior. Maintaining focus, staying on task, and making positive choices are all part of ensuring a successful learning environment.
Thank you for your continued support. Let’s make it a great week!

School News
We’re Making History—Literally
Enormous news: While all of our students crushed it Saturday, March 15 at the National History Day competition at GVSU, four of our students did exceptionally well and we are excited to announce that they will be advancing to the state competition at Central Michigan University in April!
A huge congratulations belongs to:
Valery and Milton: Jackie Robinson (Junior Group Exhibit Finalist)
Joostyn: Mayan Inequality (Junior Group Exhibit Finalist)
Raylin: Redlining (Junior Individual Exhibit Finalist)
These future historians have spent so many hours researching, analyzing sources, and creating their exhibits. Their hard work has paid off and now we are gearing up to take on the best in Michigan!
Be sure to congratulate these student for their effort when you see them!
Spirit Week & Dance Memories
We wrapped up the third quarter at Godwin Heights Middle School with Spirit Week, which ended on a high note with a school dance attended by 145 students—35% of our student body. The night featured booming music, lucky prize wheel winners, and plenty of pizza to go around. A big thank you to our amazing Student Council for organizing such a fun event and to our incredible chaperones for their support. Got ideas for future events? Reach out to your grade representatives today!
Thursday, March 27: Student Choice Lunch
Students get to taste recipes and vote on favorite food stations they want in their cafeteria. Click the link to read more!
Daily Tutoring
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We appreciate your continued support of our after-school tutoring program as we work to provide additional academic support for our students. We wanted to share a few important updates regarding the program:
- Permanent Tutoring List: We are currently utilizing 88% of our available tutoring space. To ensure we are prioritizing students who need the most support, we will begin removing students from the permanent list if they have Cs or higher in all their classes. Additionally, moving forward, any student added to the permanent list must be approved by the course proficiency team.
- Daily Sign-Ups Still Available: All students will still have the opportunity to sign up for tutoring during advisory each day if space is available.
- Attendance Expectations: To ensure students receive the full benefit of tutoring, we ask that they arrive on time and stay for the full session unless previously arranged.
- Pick-Up Procedures: Students will be released from tutoring classrooms at 3:15pm. Please plan to pick up students near the main office entrance off of Wexford.
- Please remind your student to bring necessary materials, including assignments or classwork they may need help with.
- If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to durga@godwinschools.org or kathryn.golden@godwinschools.org.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting student success!
