AN INNOVATIVE EDUCATION FOR A BETTER TOMORROW
2024-2025 NESC ACADEMIC CALENDAR
A MESSAGE FROM MR. DUSTIN HITT
Happy December! As the Christmas season approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the support that our school communities show for the students of NESC. It has not taken long in my first few months as the NESC superintendent to realize just how special our corporation really is. We have fantastic students, teachers, staff, and families, and everyone works hard to make our school corporation the best around. T-Bird Nation is alive and strong, and I could not be happier to be a part of it!
This month, we are excited to celebrate the incredible effort of the teachers, staff, and students with our Christmas programs and winter sports showcasing the incredible talent within our corporation. I would like to encourage anyone in our school community to attend these events and support our students as they shine and demonstrate the hard work that they have put into their respective activities. These young people continue to prove that the NESC embodies a very talented group of students!
As we begin to celebrate this Christmas season, I hope that everyone experiences the kindness, peace, and joy that this time of year is known for, and I hope that everyone finds time to spend with family and friends. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas season and a wonderful upcoming New Year! Go T-Birds!
-Mr. Dustin Hitt

NORTH CENTRAL
Thankful
The NC News team sought out what some teachers and students were thankful for this holiday season. Click on the button below to see what they said!
Senior Beta Convention
The North Central Senior Beta participated in the 2024-2025 State Beta Convention November 15-16, in Evansville, Indiana. Of the school's 89 members, 64 Senior Beta Club members were in attendance at the convention. The club brought back 44 awards in total! Most notably, Brynley Grabbe was elected the New State Beta Vice President. Brynley will compete for the National Vice President Position in June in Orlando, Florida. Devan Freeman won the Speech title again this year, and will also compete at Nationals. Addie Jones placed 2nd with her performing arts dance. She also received a Golden Ticket as a Premier Performer to dance at the opening ceremony this summer as well.
I couldn't be more proud of this group of Beta students. These students should be proud of themselves. Investing in a club like Beta allows students the opportunity to learn more about their strengths, their goals, but most importantly themselves. I am excited to watch them prepare for Nationals in Orlando, FL. Senior convention will be June 22-26.
Junior Beta Convention
The North Central Junior Beta's competed in the Indiana State Convention on November 14 and 15, 2024 in Evansville, Indiana. They brought home 41 plaques! In addition to bringing home several awards we also have the current Indiana State Junior Beta Secretary, Elyse Freeman, the 2025-2026 Indiana Junior Beta Secretary Elect, Mallory Shields, and Sydney Wallace earned the honor of being a premier performer this summer at the National Junior Beta Convention in Orlando, Florida. Mallory will also be running for National Secretary at the National Convention in Orlando, Florida. Great job to all the Betas that participated at the Indiana State Junior Beta Convention.

Thanksgiving Feast
“This day is a fun tradition for Northeast North that is enjoyed by all every year. We are blessed to be able to be together and enjoy the holiday,” stated Mrs. McKillop.
NENE Votes
Students came out to vote on Election Day. The vote came out pretty much the same as the entire country with Donald Trump winning the popular vote. It was a fun way to learn about the process and the importance of exercising the right to vote. Students had secret ballots and checked their choice. The “precincts” (classrooms) final counts were shared and math activities were completed about the data of the election. Elections and counting go hand in hand!
Honoring Our Veterans
On November 11, third and sixth grade students performed songs honoring the sacrifices of our veterans. Students learned about the history of Veteran's Day. Many family veterans from the community were celebrated at the ceremony and received thank you cards from the school. The Beta Club recited "The Ragged Old Flag" by Johnny Cash. The words are a historical recount of how our American flag has been in battles over the years and still waves strong due to the service of our armed forces and the American perseverance through patriotism!
Making the Grades
LOTS of students have been visiting the principal’s office in November! They have been sharing the fantastic grades they have been receiving on assignments in class, and we are so proud of the hard work that they have been doing. Keep learning and making us proud, Northside T-birds!
Bubbling Brew
Students in Mrs. Stultz’s third grade class were tasked with finding the least amount of liquid and dry ingredients that when combined would bubble. The following ingredients were available during the experiment: Crushed Dragon Teeth (powdered sugar), Juiced Eyeballs (cooking oil), Powdered Bones (cornstarch), Monster Snot (corn syrup), Spider Venom (vinegar), Vampire Toenails (garlic powder), Troil Saliva (water colored green), and Unicorn Horn (baking soda). Partners worked together to create several different concoctions and found that Unicorn Horn (baking soda) and Spider Venom (vinegar) were the two ingredients that bubbled. Once many students had determined the two ingredients, Mrs. Stultz combined the baking soda and vinegar into a large bowl so that all students could witness the “bubbling brew.”

Before Thanksgiving break, Mrs. Stultz’s 3rd graders performed two Reader’s Theater productions for the Kindergarten and Second Grade classes and some adult visitors. The students performed Cinder...Really??? The True Story of Cinderella and Jack and the Cornstalk. Many students gave lively performances and enjoyed playing the part of a different character! Even the narrators added their own interpretation to the story. It was a fun afternoon and gave the students an opportunity to learn about theater, acting and performing in front of an audience.

IU Women's Bball Trip
The Northeast East Elementary Student Council and families attended an Indiana University Women's Basketball game in Assembly Hall. Students were able to watch the game from right behind the basket which also gave some the opportunity to get high fives from the players as they ran on and off the court. After the game, students were surprised when players returned to the court to sign autographs and take pictures. The students had a great time and many memories were made including Khloe introducing herself to IU player Chloe Moore-McNeil, Piper's selfies, and Avery getting autographs from Coach Moren.
Special thanks goes to Smithville Communications for providing the tickets for our students!
Friendsgiving Celebration in Mrs. Weir's Class!
On the day before Thanksgiving break, Mrs. Weir's first-grade class hosted a delightful Friendsgiving celebration with their fourth-grade reading buddies. The event was a heartwarming display of friendship and gratitude, showcasing the strong bonds formed between the two grades.
To kick off the festivities, the first graders crafted beautiful Thanksgiving-themed invitations to share with their reading buddies and several staff members throughout the school. The excitement was palpable as students set up a long table adorned with festive decorations, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for their gathering.
The celebration began with the classic film, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," which set the tone for a day filled with joy and togetherness. After the movie, the students enjoyed a meal that mirrored the classic feast from the film, featuring:
Popcorn
Pretzel sticks
Buttered toast
Jelly beans
In a special touch of creativity and bonding, the fourth graders made friendship bracelets for their first-grade buddies. These thoughtful gifts were presented during the gathering, symbolizing the cherished connections between the students.
As the event drew to a close, the group sat around the table, coloring Thanksgiving scenes and engaging in delightful conversations. This gathering taught everyone a valuable lesson: it's not what's on the table, but who is sitting at the table that truly matters.
Hoop Shoot Contest
The following NEEE students will participate in the upcoming Hoop Shoot contest at Sullivan on Dec. 29th: Blakelynn Shidler, Sawyor Brand, Avery Kamman, Preston Gwinn, Harper Harris, and Landen Manuel. Good luck to all contestants!
Eye Exams
Hymera 1st graders traveled to Sullivan for their eye exams!
WONDER LAB
Stamps and Symmetry
Students were able to apply math and art skills at the WonderLab. Students used their knowledge of symmetry to create designs using rotational symmetry as well as complete pictures. Students also enjoyed experimenting with printmaking. Students were able to be creative and create their own stamp which they then used to make three different prints. They were excited to be able to take it home with them and use it more.
