This Week @ PS 88Q
November 13th, 2024
PTA Meeting/PAC Election and Breaking Bread Event Tuesday Nov. 19 @ 5pm
A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
I hope everyone had a wonderful week. It was a busy week at PS 88Q! (But really, every week is busy!). Our week was filled with many parent workshops, our Scholastic Book Fair, kicking off Saturday Academy, and let's not forget...Our Student Council Elections! Huge shout out to our PTA for making one of our students favorites, The Scholastic Book Fair, possible. It is a huge event, as it was open to the classes for four full days and evening hours as well. Thank you to the PTA board and all the family volunteers!
The elections were amazing. Our students did an amazing job, the candidates and the voters. Each year, our candidates take the stage to share their vision, and their ideas, and each year, it gets better and better. I always say, adults may sit around trying to figure out what the students want, but the best way to find out it is to simply ask them. And did our leaders have ideas! Wow! And lets not forget how comfortable they were on that stage, public speaking.
As the results rolled in, it was apparent that the students took this election serious and selected their choice. Every race was close, with some separated by only a few votes. Student voice is alive and well at PS 88Q. Please watch the speeches below(YouTube Link) and take a listen to their podcasts below . You will not be disappointed.
I can't believe this, but this week is our last full week of November. Next week we celebrate Thanksgiving, and there is no school Thursday, November 28th and Friday November 29th. We are not gone completely, as our Running Club is having their First Annual Turkey Run! Ms. Prinzevalli, Ms. Hartman and their running club are having a 1 mile Fun Run on Saturday November 30th. We would love to have some 88'ers cheer them on their route.
This week is filled again with wonderful opportunities for our families. Tuesday at 5pm, come celebrate with us for the Breaking Bread Event, followed by our PTA meeting and PAC Election. Continue in our family Science of Reading Workshop, and join Ms. Ivett for Coffee with our Parent Coordinator.
Have a great week!

Participatory Budgeting (PB) is one of the components of Civics for All's Partner School Program. PB is a student-driven, democratic budgeting process where school community members decide how to spend part of a budget on something to improve the school community.

Saturday Academy: Students and their Families
We are so happy to continue our work with Project Based Learning, as well as support our multi-language students in all academic subjects in our Saturday Title III Academy. Each Saturday, our students will take part in learning as well as having a lot of fun! Last year our students work was highlighted by not only city officials, but recognized on a state level. This year, our English Language Learners from Kindergarten to Grade 5 will be beginning a new project, which continues their work from last year. Stay tuned for the amazing work!
Additionally, our amazing English language teachers, Ms. Heras-Torres and Ms. Tavella are hosting english classes for our families during this time.
