Note from Admin Team
Greetings, Wildcats,
This week was fantastic at Trailridge. Our students excelled at staying focused, being incredibly positive, and supporting one another. On Monday, we kicked off our sole school/PTA fundraiser, Traversing the Trail, with an exciting assembly. The students had a great time. Please see the information below on how you can support the fundraiser.
Our athletes have also done a tremendous job this year. Not only are they competing successfully, but they are also representing our school with incredible integrity and respect. They are truly exemplifying what it means to be a Wildcat and how to "Show Up and Show Out!"
Lastly, as mentioned in the district mailer on Thursday night, our Kansas City Metro community has experienced an increase in incidents generally classified as "school threats." Today, we concluded our team presentations on school safety, discussing how to keep our school safe and how to properly report any concerns. The presentation also focused on teaching our students the differences between intent and perception. Please continue to encourage your student to report anything they see that seems concerning. Also, remind them to report any relevant content they come across on social media and to avoid reposting it.
Have a great weekend and thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Matt, Cara and Ericka

Traversing the Trail Fundraiser Kickoff!
It's time to join in Trailridge's ONLY fundraiser! Did your student tell you about the amazing kick-off assembly that happened on Monday? We had the SMNW Drumline welcome them kick-off the assembly! We introduced last year's Big Ticket Purchase...our very own Victor The Wildcat! We even had a students vs. teachers football toss, the energy was electric. Now, we need your help! Let's help our kiddos enjoy field trips (paying for a bus isn't cheap), quarterly celebrations, clubs, assemblies and so much more!
We will need help supervising the Traversing the Trail Event. Click here to get involved and to help out!

Dear Families,
It’s back-to-school time! And research shows this time of year can be a fresh start and time to recommit to the happiness practices you’ve learned about in this course. So what strategies will you commit to for the rest of the year?
Dr. Laurie Santos has studied the science of happiness at Yale. In this new season of Dr. Santos’ podcast she is joined by Stanford professor Dr. Zaki. Give it a listen for strategies for a happier, healthier life.

In CharacterStrong this week, our Wildcat hour classes learned about developing Community Agreements. They talked about the necessary requirements to create a safe space in their Wildcat hour for conversations, learning and belonging.
Have a great weekend!

Information regarding attendance to sporting events
Students that would like to attend athletic events need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the event. We do not have a Pep Club at this time, so students are expected to sit with the parent/guardian that accompany them to games. This applies to home and away games and all games played at district stadiums. Students should not be dropped off or left without a parent/guardian chaperone at athletic events.
Technology @ Trailridge
Device Maintenance
- 1st Incident: $100 charge
- 2nd Incident: $150 charge
- 3+ Incident: ~$750 charge (full device replacement)
If a device is intentionally damaged the student may be responsible for a full device replacement cost of approximately $750.
CANVAS Parent Portal
If you have not logged into your parent portal of Canvas yet, I would highly recommend doing so. Canvas is the learning management system that SMSD uses. It allows you to view assignements, assessments, grades, schedules and many more important items regarding your student's day at Trailridge.
Here is the link on how to access your Canvas parent portal. If you need additional assistance, feel free to contact the office.

If your child is going to miss a class for an appointment or any reason, please make sure you are calling the attendance hotline listed above and leave a message for the attendance clerk. This is important so that we can excuse the absence.
Early Pickup for Appointments:
If your student will need to be picked up early, please call the main office (913-993-1000) when you are on the way to pickup your student. We will immediately call them down so that they are ready when you arrive. Please avoid calling too far in advance.
INFORMATION ABOUT TRUANCY
The administration of Trailridge may begin to request documentation for all absences after the 10th absence in a school year. Absences without a doctor's note or administrative approval may be recorded as unexcused. A student with three consecutive unexcused absences, five unexcused absences in a semester, or seven unexcused absences in a year is considered TRUANT according to Kansas State statues.
