Be Not Afraid!
Good Afternoon Hawk Families,
Thank you to all our students and staff who donated blood last Friday during our EMR sponsored blood drive. Thanks to all who attended the musical last weekend! It was a great performance and glad that we were able to get the audio worked out for the Saturday and Sunday show. Thanks to all who attended and organized the Gibault Women's Club Poker Run on Sunday! It was a fun, successful afternoon.
Monday evening was a beautiful evening for baseball! Our JV and Varsity teams both walked away with a win! It was great seeing so many Gibault fans in the stands cheering on the Hawks! Thanks to all who attended!
Thanks to all who turned in change and bills for Kelsie's Hope for Sock it to Cancer Week here at Gibault. We had crazy sock day on Wednesday and students brought in money all week. The homeroom with the most money will win a donut breakfast!
We had some Senior Night activities this week! We celebrated our softball and track seniors on Wednesday night, and our soccer players are being celebrated tonight. Baseball seniors will be recognized on Monday, May 6th. Congratulations to all our spring season Senior athletes!.
On Wednesday our seniors joined seniors from our other 2 diocesan high schools for the Baccalaureate Mass at the Cathedral. Congratulations to Allison Stark, the 2024 Gibault Catholic High School recipient of the Bishop’s Discipleship Award! This award is presented to one senior from each of the diocesan high schools who exhibits a strong Catholic identity, both in school and in their community. After Mass, our seniors and their parents and special guests enjoyed a wonderful luncheon courtesy of an anonymous donor and was served by Gibault's Women Club. Thank you to both our donor and the GWC!
April Athlete of the Month Congratulations to the following students for being nominated Athlete of the Month for April:

He leads the team in batting average and slugging percentage and is working on trying to break the school record for stolen bases in a season. Tyler has been a big part of our success since his freshman year.
Libby Mesch: Softball Libby has shown great leadership over the last month and is leading the team in pitching with 2 wins. She leads the team with a .542 batting average and a slugging percentage of over 1000. She has 3 homeruns this season and has driven in 11 RBIs. Libby is a team player and delivers in clutch moments for the team.

Concession Stand Our spring sport schedules begin next week. We would love to be able to offer a small concession stand at our girl softball games and girl soccer games. If you would be willing to be the lead person for that sport, please reach out to me as soon as possible. Being the lead, does not mean that you work the stand the whole game and every game. It simply means you have it ready to go, get the volunteers who signed up for that game ready to go, and then close it up at the end.
Each athlete's parent(s) is expected to work at least one shift over the school year. You can find the link is in every Hawk Happenings newsletter. (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040D4AAEA72DA5F94-concession). Thank you to all who have already signed up!

From the Desk of Mr. Montgomery
Monday, April 29 was scheduled to be a busy day, but the skies opened up the day before, and softball, girls’ soccer, and track were all cancelled. Thank goodness for turf! The boys JV and varsity baseball teams were at Grizzlie Stadium, where they both got their contests in against the Redbirds of Alton. The Junior Hawks came away with an impressive 14-3 win, while varsity won by the score of 8-1.
Tuesday, April 30 had varsity baseball at home against the Lancers of Belleville East, with East coming out on top by the score of 10-2.
Wednesday, May 1 had varsity softball and baseball both at home against the Knights of Mater Dei, with both teams suffering defeats at the hands of the Knights. The Junior Hawks baseball team travelled to Mater Dei, and kept their hot streak alive with a 9-5 win on the road. Lady Hawks soccer travelled to Father McGivney, but were shutout by the score of 7-0.
Thursday, May 2 was another day that was impacted by weather. The Lady Hawks soccer squad was scheduled for a home contest at Oerter Park, but will travel to Belle-Clair Soccer Park in Belleville to get their game in on turf. The varsity baseball and softball teams were both scheduled to travel to Nashville, which missed the brunt of the weather and have their diamonds ready to go. The Junior Hawks baseball team, scheduled for a home contest, tagged along to Nashville and will play their game there as well.
Friday and Saturday we’ll be at the Prom, or catching up on sleep from being at the Prom. Either way, no sports are scheduled until next week.
Playoffs are just around the corner, it’s about to get busy!!
