Happy Spring!
It's a busy time of year for everyone, including your Ipswich High School guidance staff! Here are some upcoming exams and college fairs to be aware of, along with some opportunities and resources for you! Please note that there is a virtual MEFA event TODAY for high school seniors and their families, offering help comparing financial aid award letters. See details below.
EXAMS
SAT's and ACT's
There are just a few spots left for the May 3 SAT test at Ipswich High School. If juniors haven't already registered and would like to take the test, go to collegeboard.org as soon as possible to sign up! Below are additional test dates and deadlines. Fee waivers are available in guidance for students on free or reduced lunch, so if you need one, please see your counselor for details.

OPPORTUNITIES
Salem State Dual Enrollment
Salem State will be offering Ipswich High School five slots for students to take dual enrollment courses this Fall. Courses count for honors high school credit, as well as college credit, and students must complete them independently, either asynchronously online or in person. Click here for more information. Students should contact their counselor to choose courses, and submit their applications by May 2 if they wish to be considered for a spot.
Community Service Reminder
All students are required to complete 30 hours of Community Service by the start of senior year. Opportunities for Community Service are regularly posted in the morning announcements. Also, students can click here and scroll down to the black bar that says "Community Service" for information about ongoing community service opportunities, along with the form for supervisors to sign off on completed hours. MEFA
On Wednesday, April 16, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., MEFA will offer a Financial Aid Offer Hotline. This event will help families understand their financial aid offers and compare college costs. Once you log in, you’ll be paired with a financial aid expert who can help you review your child’s financial aid offers, answer any questions, and provide guidance on paying the remaining costs. The Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority is an excellent resource for families who want to learn more about paying for college. Check out the Student Loan Payment Calculator to find out what monthly payments might look like on the amount of student debt your child is considering taking on. The College Cost Calculator allows you to plug in information from various offer letters to compare them clearly and efficiently.

Action, Inc.
On Tuesday, April 29th, a representative from Action Inc. will come during R-block to speak to students who are interested in learning more about opportunities to pursue the trades. Action Inc.’s Trades Gateway Program is designed to prepare you for a career in the trades. This program will connect you with the training you need to become an Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician, and more. Students will also have access to career services such as resume writing and interviewing skills.
Open to residents of Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester, Essex, & Ipswich.
Examples of available trainings include:
- HVAC
- Marine Technician
- Hoisting
- Carpentry
- Plumbing
- Oil/Gas Heating
- Welding
- Wastewater Treatment
- Automotive Tech
- Electrical
- Machinery
- Construction Supervising
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training
Times and locations of these trainings vary based on the specific field of study. This program is free to Cape Ann residents (Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester, Essex, & Ipswich) who qualify. Sign up here for more information or email Jill at training@actioninc.org.
Homework Club!
Students are welcome to stay after school with Mr. Downing on Monday, Tuesday and/or Wednesday, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Homework Club takes place in room B234, just outside the library entrance. Please notify him if you plan to stop by, kdowning@ipsk12.net
