Welcome to the St. Nick's Youth Ministry Weekly Update
Please join in praying for those attending the March for Life and Youth Fest in Washington D.C. this week, including Fr. Jaime, Mother Salvation, Sister New Eve, the Youth & Teens of St. Nick's and our Diocese, their chaperones, and all others.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of life. We pray that all life will be treated with Love. You are Love. Grant that we may be Your Love in the world and offer Your Love to all life no matter the circumstance. We pray for the march for life and all those attending. We pray to protect the most vulnerable among us, the child in the womb. May this event be an inspiration to those who march, to those who see it and to our entire country to respect and protect life. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
His Excellency Bishop Steven Maekawa will celebrate Mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Church this Saturday, January 20th at 5pm.
The last time I spoke with Bishop Steve, he was very grateful and excited to be invited by the Youth & Teens of St. Nick's to join them for a group event, but unfortunately has not yet had that opportunity due to his extensive travel schedule.
I would like to remind and encourage the Youth & Teens who are able to attend this mass to take a moment to visit with Bishop Steve, and to keep him in your prayers as he continues to serve our vast Diocese. -Beth
MIDDLE SCHOOL/ EDGE GROUP
RECAP FOR JAN. 14
There was no class, but we did spot a few from EDGE at Apostle Sunday!
COMING UP ON JAN. 21
HIGH SCHOOL/ YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR JAN. 14
We started with a yummy treat to share brought by a very kind Birthday Girl for all of us to celebrate with her, but quickly found out we had THREE Teens who had birthdays! So we lit candles and sang to all of them!
Next, we began the second session of the God Is... Collection, God Is Real (linked below). We watched the brief video, but rather than listening for the discussion prompts, the Teens were provided with a slideshow (also linked below) to read along and refer to as we moved through the session. This turned out to be a valuable tool and the Teens were much more engaged.
They shared their thoughts and interpretations with very clear and concise descriptions. Almost everyone consistently contributed and we were all able to learn from the session, but also from each other. They appreciated learning about the 3 categories of Evidence by Design, from Causes, and from the Heart, and expressed interest in pursuing the arguments further so that they can know and share that God Is Real.
We then played a new (to most) game; Head Shoulders Knees and CUPS! It was intense and so much fun! We made a full rotation of the group to an elimination round for a winner! (see Shenanigans video and photos below)
Please look for the handout the Teens are receiving to take home as they leave each week so that they can share with their parents and families what was discussed, and to give them the opportunity to delve further into some of the topics and questions they may still have from the God Is... session for that day.
Special thanks to Clay for assisting!
COMING UP ON JAN. 21
We will begin our third session of the God Is... Collection, God Is Alive.

INFORMATION
YOUTH MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS
Per the Diocese policy for the safety of everyone, a minimum of 2 adults are required to be present for all Youth Ministry activities.
Ideally we would have at least 4-6 volunteers (preferably more), allowing for at least 1 assistant present for the HSYG one Sunday per month. We are also still in need of at least 1 more assistant for the EDGE class.
While the search to locate others who have current certification with the Diocese is ongoing, we have reached a point where we need to request that parents assist on a rotating basis so that we can continue to safely offer HSYG.
Please consider completing your certification, and/ or asking individuals who you think would be a willing volunteer. Or, you can submit suggestions for me to contact.
REQUIRED BY THE DIOCESE
All youth ministry volunteers must have current certification for the course of Serving Vulnerable Populations and a Criminal History Record Check on file with the Diocese. More information can be found by visiting Adult Training on the Diocese of Fairbanks website. Diocese of Fairbanks - Adult Training - Fairbanks, AK
