Here at John Glenn we are starting to work on getting our 5th graders ready to be 6th graders. John Glenn students feed into one middle school in the area based on where your address is located. If you are unsure what middle school your child will attend you can look it up on the NISD buses and boundaries website which is linked below. This newsletter is to help keep you informed about everything that is going on at the middle school level to help with transition. Most students from John Glenn will go to Rayburn MS, but it is always a good idea to double check with buses and boundaries or call the school counselor for assistance if you are not sure where your student will attend middle school next year.

You will find course cards for students, please look over the course cards and start making selections with your students. Starting in December the students will register for their courses in HAC with the school counselor during guidance lessons with their class. At the Bottom of this page I have also included information about NISD's magnet middle schools.

Students will have to fill out a course card to make selections for their 6th grade classes for the 2025-2026 school year. This will be done in Guidance Classes with the school counselor and sent home for parents to review, sign, and send back to school. Please see the John Glenn Course Card below.

NISD has four Magnet Middle Schools available for students to apply to. Below is some information about the magnet schools and important dates.

January 31, 2025: Acceptance/waitlist letters mailed

Focused on health professions, health science and healthcare through hands-on experiences and cross-content Project Based Learning (PBL). The program aligns with Health Science programs at magnet and multiple comprehensive high schools throughout NISD. Offers courses that expose students to the Health Science fields of therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, support services and biotechnology research and development

Focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) with opportunities to explore robotics, computer science, and biotechnology Students earn automatic acceptance to Jay Science and Engineering Academy Innovative learning spaces, engineering and robotics labs, and makerspace allow for student collaboration and hands-on learning through Project-Based Learning.

Focused on the growing industries of Cybersecurity, Global Communications and Information Technology including CyberPatriot competitions and Junior Model UN simulations. Program aligned for further study at NISD high schools in cybersecurity, web development, and information technology. Character development, leadership, and service emphasized through the UN Global Goal Framework. Innovative learning spaces, including a model Intermediate Distribution Framework room, collaborative areas, and our “learning-stairs”.

Focused on multimedia and design, the Jordan Middle School Magnet Program integrates specialized instruction with hands-on experiences across core and digital literacy subjects. This unique curriculum prepares students for careers in multimedia, design, and other creative industries through project-based learning and real-world collaborations. The program includes courses in Animation, Graphic Design, Audio/Video Production, Commercial Photography, and Fashion Design, all delivered in a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. Students can earn high school credits and participate in a bespoke Digital Art course, enhancing their early college advantage.
