GMS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER APRIL12, 2024
Happy Friday Wolf Pack Families!
It was a really great week at GMS. Dr. Bernia and his Team visited our school on Tuesday. They were so impressed by all of the great teaching and learning that was happening at out school. We had Spirit Week and it was so fun seeing staff and students dressing up and taking part in the fun! We finished the week with a Recognition Assembly. Some of our 7th grade students even took the opportunity to beat our teaching staff in a good game of dodgeball.
On Wednesday of next week, we will have PSAT testing for our 8th grade students. Please see below for the very important information for students who will be taking the test. It is critically important that students who have a District Chromebook bring them fully charged on the 17th. Please note that April 17 is an early release day for our 6th and 7th grade students. 8th grade students will remain in school to take the PSAT and will be released at the normal time of 3pm.
Wishing you all a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Stuart Riley
Principal, Geisler Middle School

On Wednesday, April 17th, ALL Walled Lake 8th grade students will be taking a practice SAT Test known as the PSAT. This is a practice test in Reading/Writing and Math. 8th grade students need not stress about the test, they simply need to try their best!
On Wednesday April 17th, 6th and 7th grade students will be dismissed at 11:05 to go home. Buses will come at 11:05 to transport 6th and 7th grade students home. If you pick your child up, please make sure they have transportation at 11:05.
8th Grade students will remain at school, have lunch and then test in the afternoon. Having only 8th grade students in the building will provide for an ideal testing environment. It is very important that 8th grade students who have a district chromebook, bring their chromebook fully charged. Students who do not have a district chromebook will be provided one for the PSAT.
Students are also allowed to bring into the testing room a pencil or pen, an approved calculator, and a nut-free snack and water if they choose. The PSAT is a timed test and will take about 2.5 hours to complete which includes a 10 minute break. Buses will then come again at 3:00 to take our 8th grade students home. It is very important that ALL 8th grade students come to school on April 17th for this is a mandatory test for all students in the State of Michigan.

Dear Walled Lake Schools Community:
Warriors for Warriors & its community PINK events began in 2011. Without your help, Warriors for Warriors programming will be forced to end after this year.
Planning has begun for our 13th annual Pink Out which will be held on October 25, 2024 and programming will end with the Annual check presentation at Pink Out Basketball game in the Winter. As we begin the process of designing the shirts, looking for business sponsors and jersey sponsors, we are also asking for your help. In order to continue the W4W program, we are in need of new volunteers to continue to drive our success.
Unless we can find a handful of new volunteers willing to take on some roles within our organization, this year of Pink Out Events will be the last. Obviously, this is not what we want, but it is time for a new group of people to take over. So many of our current volunteers and board members became a part of W4W while their kids were in middle school. It was a great opportunity to get involved within the Western community as their kids transitioned to high school. We also have volunteers who have never had kids at Walled Lake Western. Over the past 13 years, we have donated over $700,000 to Susan G. Komen, Angels of Hope and St. Baldrick’s. We know that those dollars have made a real impact on families fighting cancer within our community.
We will be having an informal meet and greet on April 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the WLW Media Center. At this meeting, we will be choosing the shade of pink for this year’s shirt.
If you, or someone you know, has an interest in getting involved, PLEASE join us on the 16th or reach out to us at wlwarriorsforwarriors@gmail.com.
We would be happy to chat with you and provide you with more details. We are seeking assistance at all levels and without a successful search, we regret that the incredibly meaningful W4W program will come to a close.

Super Star Staff Award
Hello Walled Lake Families,
Support your favorite WLCSD Staff member with a nomination for a Super Star Staff Award from the Foundation For Excellence! Each $10 nomination gives the staff member a chance at one of two $500 cash prizes from the FFE and the Walled Lake Schools Federal Credit Union. The funds raised from the nominations will help the Foundation For Excellence give more money back to our teachers and students.
The Foundation For Excellence (FFE) is a non-profit organization that works with Walled Lake Schools to provide grants for classrooms throughout the district. These funds support extra literacy tools like decodable phonics books, STEM equipment for classrooms, additional instruments for music rooms, social emotional support tools, and many other things.
Nominations cost $10 and the staff member (teacher, administrator, custodian, parapro, bus driver, etc) will be given a certificate with a personal message from you as to why they are so special.
